Is the Ipod connection supposed to charge the Ipod?

You need the adapter and not the cable. The Scosche Passport will match the charging pinouts correctly. This is an Apple issue and not an Infiniti one. In their wisdom they moved some charging pinouts around after one of the iPod generations.

I have an 08 G37S with the stock Ipod connector and a first gen. ipod touch and it charges my ipod
