Iphone 3G

Hello all:

I know this has been discussed before, but I was having trouble finding a definitive answer about this via some searching. So I apologize if the answer should have been staring me right in the face and I missed it.

Anyway, my 5th Gen Ipod (also called Ipod Video) is cooked now. Tried doing factory restore, the whole shebang -- basically no sound comes out of it -- either from the headphone jack at the top or the data jack at the bottom. It's definitely broken -- I found some other forums on the web stating if you could squeeze the case while listening to it and manage to hear some staticy sound it usually means there is something wrong with the logic board (sort of like a motherboard).

Really it's too old and not cost-effective to repair, so I'm going to get a 7Gen iPod 160GB, which I understand works perfectly with my 2009 G37. My broken 5g ipod worked and charged but did not shut off. Because I usually left it in the car and almost never remembered to turn it off manually this isn't ideal, I think the battery would wear out much sooner from the constant discharging & recharging. So I'd prefer to get what works, but of course it's $225 I don't really want to spend at the moment.

So I also have an 8Gig iPhone 3G, although it's not my preferable solutionj, perhaps I could start using that for music in the meantime before I finally plunk down the two bucks.

Questions:
1. Is there any adapter for the 2009 G (w/ the music box system) that will definitely work with the iPhone 3G (meaning charge while it plays)? I guess shutting off is not that important since I will want to take it with me.

2. I have tried it with the included cable and it looks like it plays when in iPod mode but doesn't charge. When this is in use, will I still be able to use the phone via the bluetooth phone functions in the car? How well does it work -- i.e. does it go back to playing music when the call is finished, etc?

TIA

Google Scosche Passport. Or search on the forums here. There's also one from Griffin that works well from what I hear.

The Passport charges the phone but it a POS because it doesn't lock into the port - every time you take a sharp turn, hard brake, go over a bump, or accidentally touch it, it will come loose. **** poor design. I have one.

There is pretty much no other option then getting the Scosche Passport if you want your iphone to charge. And yes bluetooth phone calls will work while it is connected, charging and playing music, no problem there.

I too have an iphone and bought the Scosche Passport and it worked pretty well (a lot of times when you connect it won't recognize the ipod so you gotta keep plugging and unplugging until it is recognized. Anyway I soon got tired of plugging it in everytime I got in the car so I bought a 160 GB ipod that worked tremendously for 2 weeks....until it got stolen last week and now I'm back to square one and using the iphone again, oh well gotta start saving my pennies again!

Meh. Perhaps I'll just let it run on batteries while it's in the car. I can always charge it at the office or home when i get outThis is just a temporary patch until I can get a 160 anyway.

Thanks for the replies!
