i think it has more potential for mods. it's definitely worth the extra IMO.
I got my G without it, and I regret it. stock stereo sounds horrible, has very limited sound adjustment options and costs an arm and a leg to mod.

I've spent about $10k on my home audio system. I built the room to support it as well.
The Bose system? I get in my G coupe sometimes just to drive and the volume is 3/4. It gives a lot of enjoyment, even more than my home setup. T%hen again, the ride has something to do with it as well!

As to the base, while it is not bone shaking strong, it does vibrate the mirrors, and I've heard some low frequency base in a U2 song that I didn't even know it existed.

Plenty fine for a car.
