Since the latest iPhone update, Music Playback is Wonky
So before the latest update, everything was great. I've got the iPhone 3G hooked in with the Scosche Passport, and the music integration into the head unit was great. Now, since the latest update, when I choose one of my playlists on the console, it doesn't take. I usually have to press select another 4-5 times until it finally accepts it and advances to the song list. Not only that but even though my iPhone is set to shuffle all songs and playlists, the console shows shuffle as off, and I can't figure out how to change that, which also worked fine pre-update. Is anyone else seeing this behavior? I've got a 2008 6MT, for reference.
Thanks,
Dave

Yeah! I forgot about that one - WTF??? I'm constantly getting "iPod Not Connected" and have to go through the unplug/plug cycle. I will contact Apple and see where I get.

I'm assuming you're talking about firmware 3.1?
I haven't updated yet, and I'm glad I haven't. Apparently there are many known bugs with it, and Apple is presumably working on 3.1.1 or thereabouts.
There are guides on the net on downgrading your FW from 3.1 back to 3.0 or 3.0.1

So here's the scoop: one bug, and one "didn't know that". First, the didn't know that. If you want a playlist to shuffle, don't assume that just because it's set to shuffle in iTunes (both in the main playlist and the one on your iPhone) that it will be in shuffle mode when the iPhone is in the car or your pocket. You MUST tap the shuffle button while a song is playing in the playlist. So, before I connected the iPhone to Mr. G., I started the playlist in question and then tapped on the screen while the first song was playing, and hit the shuffle button (which was not blue/engaged). Once you do this, you can hook it to the car, and you never have to do it again. Duh.
Now for the bug - the playlist not showing up on the iPhone. This is a known issue, and here's what you need to do for now: In iTunes, edit the playlist (in my case a smart playlist), and add as the first rule, "Playlist is Music". And it will then show up when the iPhone is unplugged. Apple knows about it. As long as that's the first rule, you can leave the others alone.
So now with that temporary fix, and the "ding" moment about shuffling, I'm back in business. Hope it helps you too.
