I bought my G37 in March 2008, also in North Texas. The maps were already woefully out of date. It's especially bothersome when your own neighborhood isn't included (despite completion in 2003!).

Went to Crest, where I spent a Friday morning waiting by myself. They admitted that I was the first and they weren't ready. Promised to call, pick me up and so on. Never called. That's Crest.

BTW, Crest said they'd need to charge the basic 'computer diagnostic' fee of $150.

Went to Grubbs instead. Worth the drive. They finished quickly and charged $80. Maps are genuinely updated, but as far as this area goes it's impossible to keep up. I'm anxious for the next update already.

FWIW, the Grubbs tech said they use a CF interface and download the data wireless over the Internet. Obviously something we could do ourselves (unless you're Crest), if allowed, while still preventing the widespread distribution of pirated disks.

So you paid $80 total out of pocket by going to Grubbs? Would you mind sharing the details of who you spoke to in order to get it done for this price? I would be willing to pay that much on my next trip to Big D. PM me please if you'd rather not post it.

Sorry about that ... I paid $190 to Zenrin for the license and then $80 to Grubbs to install.

$270 total. (not $80.) I've not heard of any dealer paying for, subsidizing or even 'passing through' or 'bundling' the license fee. At least not around here.

I don't remember who I talked to at Grubbs, but I've made the long trip a number of times since buying a G35 there in 2003, and they've always treated me well.

Crest didn't seem to know what to charge. They acted like the diagnostic charge was a sort of minimum for anything they did. ($150, I think.)
