HVAC fresh air/recirculation button

When i turn my heat on in the car, and press the fresh air/recirculation button for recirculation, my A/C comes on. So I press the A/C button to turn it off and the fresh air/recirculation button changes back to fresh air. Why can't I have my heat and recirculation on at the same time? Any one else have this issue?

Every car I've owned has worked that way. It's not an issue. It is working as designed.

It's never done that on the cars i've owned. And i was actually able to have the heat on the recirculation on until i changed the mode for the vents.

I agree with you. Generally I want to keep it in recirculate mode. I like the auto hvac function but I don't want it to control my air inlet because I can control better than the car can. Lexus has a odor/smog sensor that's intelligent then I wouldn't mind.

Supposedly you can press and hold the recirculate for until it starts flashing to take it off AUTO but the mode doesn't stick. I think it only works until you press AUTO again.

This is the first car I've owned that does this. If you're 20 something and have not owned too many cars, you may not mind; it was nice having a choice...

I hear ya, I like the ability to decide how I want my car to operate and not have it always do what it thinks is best. My older cars let me decide but they also had manual ***** and controls. My Spec V was the first car that "thought it was a better idea" to automatically get fresh air. My G35 was the same way as well. I know that fresh air works better for defogging, but I say make it a choice not a requirement.

You can have heat and recirc on at the same time (just not without the A/C conditioning the air).

All Infinitis and Nissans with the higher end/automatic climate control systems operate this way. If you operate recirc with the A/C off and the windows closed, the windows will fog up.

In theory, you should really only have to set the desired cabin temperature and leave the system in full auto to let the climate control system do its thing.

From the owners manul (4-27)

Automatic intake air control

In the AUTO mode, the intake air will be controlled
automatically. To manually control the
intake air, push the intake air control button.
To return to the automatic control
mode, push the intake air control button
for about 2 seconds. The indicator
lights (both air recirculation and outside
air circulation sides) will flash twice, and then
the intake air will be controlled automatically.

I am not quite understanding these posts. Direct question for all you extra knowledgeable folks: Can you operate the heat and recirculate the air without the AC light illuminating? In my 2010 G37 Coupe - it appears impossible.

The way it works in my 2011...press the recirculate the ac comes on. This is the first car that I owned that was hardwired this way and I find it an annoyance. What the posters said above appears to be true.

Interface engineering at it's worstl

Computerized controls.
Some may remember their first car or maybe just an older (vintage) car where fresh and recirc was a manual lever that you pulled left or right and you would hear it pulling some huge flap that was opening or closing.
