2008 XM Issues

Picked up the new ride last week, XM was working fine until yesterday. It keeps going back to channel O saying loading, only certain channels come up. I had the signal resend, any ideas before we take it to the dealer. Also where's the XM unit located in the 2008's. If they have to change the tuner box I don't want them to take the dash apart.

I would say try calling XM first to see if they can re-send the signal to your car. This happened once in my G35 with Sirius and I called them up, they reset my turner or something and 15 minutes later it was working again.

If you have Nav the tuner is part of the main AV Controller, so they will have to remove the dash. If it's non-nav, then the tuner is in the trunk.

If you've already had them resend the activation signal, then there really isn't much more you can do aside from tracing wires.

That has happened in my car a few times. I would drive it to the store and no XM. Park it and do my business, and when I came out and started the car again it would work fine. Just check it tomorrow. It should be cool.

You might want to check to see if your three month trial period is activated too.

Angry Just came back from the dealer

They could not fix the XM either, they did all the stuff that I had done. I really would like to unplug and re plug the power supply to it but they said they'll order a new unit. The mechanic thinks the unit is in the trunk, one of the members had posted since we have the nav on our 2008 G37 it's in the unit behind the dashboard. Obviously the unit is working because it's picking up all the preview channels and some random stations. I think it just needs to be reset. I did the refresh signal couple of times. Any other suggestions.

Um call XM.. I could have told you not to bother going to the dealer, as you say it's picking up some channels so doesn't look like there is anything wrong with the unit. Call XM.

Do we get a few channels for free after XM free trial period ends? My trial ended a few days ago and noticed I was getting about 5 channels and yesterday it was 5 different channels. I never used XM during the trial, but free is always nice. I may go there when all else fails.

I think you are only able to use channel 1 after the trial period ends..

If you buy a portable XM radio, you get the preview channel, some news channel and some sports channel, and, maybe one or two more, before you activate the new radio.

Mine expired Monday and the screen said "updating" when I tried it. When I tried tuning I saw channel 1, 3 which just has a message saying to call xm because service problem but then was surprised to see 80's, Hits, Ethel, some country channel, Fox news. Last night it was 70's, Hits, Lucy, CNN. So I figured XM rotates a few channels free as a sample but not sure if happens constantly or at certain times of the year kind of like HBO sometimes has a free weekend.

dmkazak do those channels rotate in a portable radio and are they always available? If so I guess if we let it expire we still get a few free xm channels… It also probably solves the OP’s problems because he mentioned he was getting a few channels. So like diamondG suggested, give XM a call because they probably just cancelled your trial subscription.
