Longer or shorter iPOD cable?

Has anyone run across any mods for the stupid factory IPOD cable? With a 160gb Ipod in there there is barely any room left in the center console, and as many have posted pics already, the cable has to be coiled up to fit properly.

Here's my suggestion, and hopefully we can get some of the more ingenious people on this board to help out...

1. Shorten the cable considerably so that the IPOD/cable are neatly tucked away without the extra cable length...

2. Make a super long cable which would run from the center console to the dash compartment. This will not only relocate the ipod, but also have the option of locking it in the dash compartment so that it doesn't get stolen (like I had mine stolen a month ago).

Any suggestions how we can make it happen? especially the 2nd option...

Someone posted yesterday they would be looking to build a longer cord with more flexible wiring.. I'm not sure who else uses the iPod connection we have so I say it would be hard to find another cord for now that Infiniti gave us. The cord was designed so that you could just plug in your iPod and leave it in the center console. Living in Miami I deffinately feel your need to secure your iPod especially when valeting, had a few things jacked from my old G too. I suppose if your planning on going out you had better just lock in the glove box ahead of time.

I'll answer my own question...

http://www.cablejive.com/extendercableplus.html

It's a start... they say you can make a cable up to 9 feet long. That should be plenty long to reach from the center console to the glovebox. I've wasted more money on stupid crap over the years, and I'm thinking I'll give this one a try. I'll report back to see how it goes..

I cannot mention yet by name, but there is a company that is making a system whereby you can relocate the IPOD, extended cable and all, in the vehicle - neatly, looks factory, etc. It isn't infiniti specific, but apparently this is a problem with many ipod car systems. My complaint is that, as long as the factory cable is, it isn't quite long enough and certainly not thin enough to have the ipod OUTSIDE of the center console with the armrest closed. I assume they don't want you to operate the vehicle while looking at the ipod and will make it as difficult as possible to accomplish such a feat. In that case, however, why didn't the make the ipod connector and storage compartment in the trunk????

Yes, same length, but you cannot close the armrest. It would be nice to place this into a more safe location - i.e., field of view - so you don't look down.

would be nice if infiniti used a standard ipod connector in the car

but i guess you could use it as an extension, plug the infiniti cable into that cable then plug that into the ipod

check it.. the 6mt has a notch there for the cable to run though. i haven't looked at a 5at, but i don't see why they wouldn't do the same with the 5at. but then again there are a lot of things i look at and end up saying "why the hell would infiniti do that?"
