It is nav, the HDD models are the only ones with navigation. it should work.... give it a try and let us know. As far as i know the only difference would be the boot screen.

@iCrap Hello, I just registered here after reading some of this thread. I own a 2010 GT-R USDM spec with nav, and either my HDD died, or my headunit is bad. According to the headunit, I get messages saying the HDD is bad, and sometimes saying that a map update has failed. Being that I am not your average "wealthy" GT-R owner, I am trying everything in my power to repair this problem cheaply.
I tried to read the disk just by hooking it to my windows machine. It spun up and did not click, and it was viewable through device managager, but not viewable through disk management. Any clone software I tried to fire up would hang on scanning disks with the drive plugged in (USB to ide), and if I rebooted my PC with it plugged in, it would hang my BIOS. I did end up sending my HDD away to a HDD repair place, and they stated that it was password-protected, and I thought they said they were able to remove the password (maybe they said unable), but I do know that they said they were unable to see any data, although it appeared that the HDD appeared to be working properly.
I am waiting for the HDD to ship back to me from the HDD recovery place. Is there anything of value that I could possibly help with? I feel that if you guys get the GT-R software working on a G37, then I also could buy the much cheaper G37 headunit and run it in my GT-R if in fact my head unit is dead. If not, then I at least could possibly still benefit from a disk image so that I can replace my HDD.

Hey, the behavior you mentioned makes perfect sense, as that is what will happen when the drive is still locked, you won't see anything at all. Also - you mentioned that you use an IDE-USB adapter, and that would only really work once the drive has been unlocked. The only way I have been able to unlock the drive is with an old PC on IDE onboard the motherboard.
If you have a legacy PC with IDE I can guide you through unlocking the drive. OR if not, you can ship me the drive and I can try to extract the image from it (assuming it's not actually dead of course)

Ok, I don't have a legacy PC off-hand with IDE support, so I can possibly send it off to you as long as I could get it back in a somewhat reasonable time frame. Would the resulting image from a 2010 GT-R HDD be of any value for what you are trying to do? I thought I read earlier in the thread that you were looking for a 2010 HDD, but I may have read that wrong.
Yeah, so basically my project came to a standstill since the goal was to unlock the GT-R menus on the G37 headunit - my car has the older head unit (pre 2010) which after digging through my image, it turns out the GT-R stuff is just not there. Its on my list to get my hands on a 2010+ setup and mess around with it more. We also figured out serial access into the headunit, so I can connect up and send it commands / unlock functions etc. (i posted screenshots of that before)
With the GT-R image it would probably help make some progress towards unlocking the GT-R menus on the G37. So if you want, I can try the same unlock, clone the drive, upload the image and send the drive back over. I was able to clone my own drive onto another and it did boot up fine, so should work for your GT-R too. (I did try cloning to SSD but that didn't boot unfortunately, but it could just be that particular SSD)

Have you contacted forum member legertas over at gtrlife.com? He seems to be the definitive "go to" guy regarding the GT-R's AV issues. Granted he will probably try to sell you one of his kits, but never hurts to ask...
@ihateu3 It seems that the GT-R's are seriously prone to problems with the AV/Infotainment system. As expensive as those cars are it is ridiculous how many problems have been documented.

Legertas helped me w/ a similar question I had once years ago. He means well, and is a great guy who knows his stuff. But, first and foremost he is a businessman.
I disagree here. These headunits were mass produced and as these cars rolled off the factory line, the configurations were written to the system. Folks with these same headunits have been able to unlock the HDD, reconfigure the "setup" and run the GT-R "theme." It is just a matter of being able to write the new configurations. If they can do it on a Murano unit, it can theoretically be done on just about any similar Nissan unit.
I agree, totally.
Good luck.
