Ok. I have some good news and some bad news...
Good news:
After 30 minutes and 60$ spent, i got the US spec unit HDD unlocked and i made a image from it.
The G37x US version HDD image with 2012 navigation version on it is available HERE

Looks like unlocking the GTR Features IS possible as done by a russian company. Wonder how they did it

- Substitution of equipmentNissan / Infiniti 2003-2017 - the organization and conclusion of telemetry based on the Nissan GTR for regular on-board computers Nissan Connect Premium 08it.
The specialists of our company successfully managed to add telemetry from the sports legend Nissan GTR R35 !!
Now every Nisaan / Infiniti owner will be able to get readings like a sports car.
The amount of information and its processing depends on the installed sensors in the car.
If necessary, we are ready to help with the conclusion of the necessary information, subject to the availability of equipment in the car. (e.g. turbines).
The menu is activated by pressing the key 6. Control both from the steering wheel buttons, the control console, and touch from the screen.
Each owner, at his discretion, can combine and display the information he needs.

Bull, a guy in Russia has successfully unlocked the AV head unit. He is running the stock GTR interface in his, of all things, Murano

I'm looking into this, but my laptop is "too new" so I am unable to remove the password on the HDD. Still, when there's a will... I will find a way...

The HDD's are IDE and unless you have a older laptop or a tower PC, options to remove the password is limited.
From what I gather, all Nissan headunits are the same unit. The "method" link above shows how to access the configuration files and make changes.
Once I get this password "zapped" I can then clone the HDD to a SSD. Then take the HDD and play with different configurations on my bench test unit.

Will not work. Tried everything. Those USB things don't work - at least not for me.
Everything I've read says that the HDD must be plugged into the motherboard, then you run the zu.exe, and voila. Then, you can use the USB adapter to access the drive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have piles of old hardware laying around, I may have something with IDE still. Will check.
Also another option, connect the USB IDE adapter and attach it to a VM, boot FreeDOS in a VM and unlock the drive.
Edit, i just checked and I have an old tower with IDE. Worst case you can send me the drive if you want and i'll give it a shot.

I've used something like this to recently access an ide drive. Surprisingly this adapter works both ways.
Actually, this probably won't work, notebook ide drives use a different pinout than 3.5" ide's.
