Talked to Bose Customer Service..........

I spoke with Bose today to find out some wiring issues. They told me that by adding anything to the system was not recommended (big surprise) and it could / would invalidate the warranty by Infiniti>>>>>>>like I am the only one to ever add a sub..........give me a break!! I have not heard of any problems with warranty issues from adding a subwoofer,,,,,,,has anyone else??

Example... (true story)

Customer comes in, the window's go down at random... and then will not go back up... I ask the tech if it has an aftermarket system of any kind in the audio... tech says yes but customer said he had it for a year... The Window Control Switches are bad, they get replaced, then the Body Control Module goes bad... Replace the BCM.... then the window control switches go bad again, and replace another BCM... I tell the tech, look behind the head unit, see whats going on there... Sure enough, a wire that was spliced during the install wasnt shielded well and started shorting out on another wire...

At fault... the stereo installation a year later due to an installation that worked at first, but failed later...

ANYTHING you do to the electrical system can effect everything else on the car... It wont VOID your warranty out rite, but, if they find that the problem started from your modification, it will not be covered...

I can certainly understand that....In this case I don't plan on going near the head unit....just from a speaker lead....I can't imagine that interfering with anything else....but I do see your point....thanks for the reply.

As a general rule, if you splice into any type of factory wiring, your warranty is likely to be void on anything that may occur as a direct or indirect result of it. Electircal in particular can be very dicey like the example SLaPiNFuNK gave. I have an issue in my Maxima where the radio and climate illumination will go out every time i depress the brakes but only if the headlights are off, everything is fine with the lights on. Weird. Nobody can diagnose it. It started after I replaced the door courtesy light assembly on the driver side. It's probably a short of some kind, but I can understand how Nissan can't warranty that because it's the result of something I did... somehow.

As long as you know EXACTLY what you're doing, you shouldn't have to worry about the warranty.

Anything can happen when it comes to anything electrical, even low voltage speaker wire...

I had another customer who had an aftermarket head unit installed in his Z33... He kept getting VDC / SLIP lights on at random times... turned out, they tapped into the power wire for the ASC relay box...

Just as long as you understand if there is a problem in the future that might not becovered do to a direct cause of failure from a modification you can do anything you want...

there are lot of times things get covered by warranty that are direct cause of user error... what happens most of the time is nissan calls back for the part and finds the cause of failure and then does not pay the dealer for completing the warranty repair...

In my opinion the system is actually pretty nice. I like the quality. Not stunning but damn good for a factory system.

I agree the system is pretty good....I would just like a bit more "tight" bass for good old rock'n roll and jazz........I figured a simple sub set-up would be pretty benign in the "potential problem" department....especially considered how common they are.....for what it's worth I am having a very reputable shop do the install.........
