Intelligent Key

Is there a way to have you car doors lock automatically when you have the key in your pocket and walk away from the car? They would then unlock when you got up to that car again.

Sorry if this was covered. I did a search and had no luck

Thanks.

I more wish you could have the car programmed to lock the doors automatically when the car starts driving like my BMW. I keep forgetting to lock the doors...

I too wish the car would lock itself after one starts driving.

I also wish the car would lock itself after it senses the engine is off and no key in the near proximity of the vehicle (because I walked away).

There are third party devices to make the doors lock when you ignite or drive.

Locking when you walk away would be nice. Unlocking when you get in range would be nice too. Just icing on the cake. I am sure that it can be done with the gadgets available.

I wish. I'm glad I'm not the only knucklehead who forgets to lock the car.

I haven't tried this in the new generation but in the older generation the car would automatically lock if you left the car after about 45 seconds.

The only way it will lock is if it was locked already and you used your fob to unlock it, and then you don't for whatever reason don't open your door. It will automatically lock again by itself.

maybe I'm missing something but why do you need the doors locked while your driving? Its not like th door will fly open while you're driving down the freeway

It's a safety feature. Try driving down a bad neighborhood with your doors unlocked in a 39000+ car. You know what a car jacking is, right?

I always walk up to my car and hit the button on the door to unlock it only to realize that it was already unlocked. I always forget. But then again sometimes I leave the keys in center console so its good that it doesnt lock itself

Define "bad neighborhood"? and do you think a locked door will deter a determined car jacker?
