A/C Default Setting...

I wasn't sure exactly where to post this but it's electrical...

Why is it that when I start my G37 and I turn on the air conditioning or its on already when I start the vehicle the default setting for the Air Conditioning is set to RECIRCULATING ?? This is driving me nuts.

I live in Florida so it's freaking hot most of the time but I don't like recirculated air unless its truly necessary.

Also, I think the iPod navigation needs some help... but its cool.
I also wish I could hook up the iPhone to it but oh well.

I'm pretty sure if you hold the recirculating/fresh air button for 2 seconds it goes into auto mode... so it switches it between outside/recirc based on need... i remember reading that somewhere...

Has anyone noticed when the A/C first comes on in recirculation mode that the vents put out a moldy, mildewy smell until the thing switches over to fresh air? Just a minor nuisance, but wondering...

TBONE,

You are reading my mind. While I was waiting outside to get a haircut today I called my Infiniti sales lady and told her about it. I thought I was crazy.

What do we do ?

They told me to bring it down but it seems to happen mostly when the A/C system has been off for a while.

The A/C pulls water from the air exactly like a dehumidifier. This water accumulates and grows mold and mildew. Lysol will kill it.

Lysol where ? Spray it in the vents ? I think not.

Spray it in the car ? Are you nuts ? That's all I need is to smell my Grandmother's house while I'm driving.

My car is just over 2 weeks old. I do not expect it to be growing mold and mildew that quick. While hot recently, our weather here in So Cal is not that humid.

I am thinking that perhaps the removable filter in the ventilation system is suspect. I plan to have the dealer do something about it at the 3,750 mile service.

nasd90, here's the blurb from the owners manual:

I'm fairly certain that my car usually starts in the fresh air mode. I cant say that I've paid that much attention to it though.

the reason when the system starts in recycle is it takes less time for the car to make the cabin cooler this way. So it starts off in recycle to get the temp to the set temp faster then changes to normal. If its super hot where ever you are put it on recycle it will cool down faster because the car is not taking hot air from the outside then having to cool it. Its taking the cool air from the inside and super cooling it faster. Where in broward are you located? I am in Cooper city....

I dont think our cars have smog sensors in them. My Lexus used to switch from fresh air to recirculate whenever the car sensed smog (as in I was getting the exhaust from the guy in front of me). This one doesn't do it...
