I've been reading about Beltronics STi and it seems much better compared to the Valentine One unit. I'm not sure about the Escorts or Passports, but that's the one that's caught my eye so far.

Any other recommendations? I would also prefer to spend < $500.

Seems like a solid unit, the stealth factor is def cool, but mostly unnecessary unless you're a trucker. I personally like the fact that the V1 tells you where the bogies are and how many there are, good to know in those high-speed chases lol!

But I have seen the BEL 980 take first place in some tests versus the V1, so I don't doubt there's better stuff out there.

The Bel STi is $50 more than the Valentine One and it has less range than the V1. The Bel STi is only useful if you are a trucker or live in the one state, Virginia, that bans them.

second that... the best detector "for me". locking out those super markets and other false alarms on the way into work "every day!" is huge!

How worried are you people about people stealing your radar detector? Do you take it down every time and put it in the glovebox? Do you feel like having it up top behind the tinted area is enough of a deterrent?

I personally feel like I should opt for the stealth install method, but I will give it more thought.

Why dont cops just Make the car regular and unmarked, is it a legal law for it to have letters on it?

I would think it's a requirement; otherwise, anyone can pretend they are a cop and drive fast without raising suspicion even from the real cops. The unmarked cars they use are fewer in number so they can check it more easily if they aren't sure. Car jackers can also pull you over just to steal your vehicle. The list can go on.

My regular Escort 8500 has always treated me well, I'm getting it hardwired at the dealership the day I get my G37S, when the 8500 dies, I'll just get the 8500 x50 or the 9500 depending on how rich/poor I am.

Also, any Escort owners out there, I've owned my 8500 for many years now, within the past 6 months I've noticed it's done a self calibration a few times... Does this mean it's on the way out? It still seems to work/alert normally.

I read in one of the replies to this thread that the "Mike's Mount" works...

I have a mount bracket for the rear view mirror that worked with my 350z, but it doesn't work on my G37S, even after I tried to make the hole bigger...

Can anyone send me a link to the radar detector mount that will allow me to use my Escort 8500 under my rear view mirror please? Please? I already have the wiring run for power to the rear view mirror location.

I don't have a powered rear view mirror. Does anyone know if the wires are still run up to the hole where the connector for the powered rear view goes into the roof?

Nevermind on my last post, after a little bit of searching, I found Mike's email address: mike3348@roadrunner.com I emailed him and here's what he said for any of you that may be interested:

The Escort mounts are $21.00 ea. shipped USPS. My paypal account is mike3348@roadrunner.com.
The new Infiniti's have had a 15/16 sort of oval molded plastic mirror mounting shaft. Enclosed are pictures of that size shaft. Make sure that is the size you have.

The stem changed shape in the 2006 G35 coupe, I had one of the first invisicords/mikes mount on the G coupe and the 350Z mount mike sent didnt fit, I sent it back and he had it modified to fit. So if you have a 2006+ G mount, it should fit on the G37.
