got some tires, major chop (cupping)

so i got some tires with like 80% tread but they are so chopped on the side walls, would it harm the AWD system in the time it would take to get the choppiness in the tires back to normal again?

or should i just do some donuts? lol

Tire chop

Chopped or cupped tires can result from worn ball joints in the suspension system. ... The excess movement causes the tire to momentarily lose contact with the road, resulting in choppy or scalloped wear patterns. Wheel bearings with excessive play will allow abnormal tire tracking and angular lean.

In my 45 years of being a gearhead, I have never seen the word "chopped" used as a synonym for cupped, either with cars or motorcycles.

The AWD system only cares if the tires have less than 1% radius/diameter/circumference difference between front and rear.

oh i see.. so what happens if there is more of a difference than 1% in terms of treadwear?

Regradless of why there is a difference, you may damage the transfer case clutches.

Close to 30 years here. Never heard the term either. Heard of cupped, scalloped, feathered, but not chopped. Kids these days!!

Is the tread on all the tires within 3/32 of each other?

Shouldn't mess with the AWD or put excess strain on the transfer case
