Offset/Wheel Width

What's up guys,

I recently decided to finally buy some new wheels for my 13' G37x. Before starting I attempted to search with no success for information that matched the set up I wanted to attempt. After getting the greenlight from CARiD that they would fit, I got some 20x8.5 wheels all the way around. The offset on them is +35 but I've been having second thoughts on if this was the correct offset to go with for the near flush look I'm looking for. I'm eventually going to get coilovers and drop it a inch or two so I don't want my tires poking out but at the same time don't want them sucked in. I'm sure you guys have heard this question a million times but could someone calm my nerves before the wheels get delivered. Thanks!

8.5 +35 won't be flush, but at stock height they'll fit ok at the fender. Once you lower it you'll probably want spacers to flush it up. If you haven't finalized your order you could run a 9.5 width at +38, that's what I run and it's flushed up pretty well. I run 245s all around and have room for a bit more tire, a 255 would still fit well at the fender and if you had a RWD you could run even wider in back.

Ugh that's what I was worring about. How wide of spacers do you think I'd need to finish the job?

Hard to say for sure as flush to one person might be sunken to another
Probably in the 10mm range.

Ahh, well 10mm isnt that bad. I was thinking it may be worse than that. Spacers could be an easy fix there.

It didn't turn out too bad. Just need to get rid of the wheel gap now!

Not bad, what tire size did you end up with?

Stayed with the 20x8.5 +35 since I had already ordered them. Coilovers are coming next. That wheel gap is annoying to look at haha

Ahh, I went 245/35/20 Toyos. Now I'm just reading up on coilovers vs springs. Seems like both will do the job though since I only want a 1.5 inch drop for a DD.

For an X I think the Swift lowering springs will get you where you want to be, assuming your stock dampers have good life left in them. I would also strongly recommend a rear camber/toe kit to keep your alignment proper, you can typically get by without a front camber arm kit w/ that milder drop, but YMMV.

Nice! I was just reading about all of that but I did notice that if I did go springs and camber kit it would be almost the same price as coilovers. Now I'm trying to figure out if I'd need the camber kit of I did in fact go with coils. Eh soooooo many options and combinations for a simple task.

To drop your G in the 1.5" range on coilovers will also require camber kit in back unless you want to be replacing your tires more often. Starting price for coils for an X run about $800 so you're about $525 ahead going w/ springs but you can't select exact height or firmness. Keep in mind most coilovers are set up pretty firm (and will have a bouncy ride if set too soft) so Swift springs will ride closer to OEM if that's important to you.

I guess my biggest concern is the long term functionality. Springs sound like an easy cost efficient way to get the results I'm looking for. The only thing that bothers me with them is that from what I'm reading aftermarket springs dont go too well with the stock dampers/struts. My 37 already has 60,000 on it so I wonder if I should just bite the bullet and go coilovers even if they are more expensive upfront.
