Coilovers are the way to go if you plan on long term, just keep in mind you will have a noticeably firmer suspension that will take what little luxury the G may have out of the equation. I'd take a look at Ksport, get pretty decent reviews here and there's quite a few that run them. If you go all-in w/ complete front and rear camber sets and coilovers you'll be in the $1500 range (with alignment factored in) if you are willing to DIY the install.
And the price would go down about $350 if you get just the rear camber/toe set.
As far as how much life is left in the OEM dampers, hard to say, depending how the Gs been driven they could be about halfway through their life or almost toast.

What's your thoughts on the swift spring koni damper combo? Sounds like I'd keep the smooth ride but not have the ability to adjust for the around the same price?

Ughhh that is an absolute bummer.... I guess that makes my decision an easy one since I dont wanna just put a bandaid on it with springs only to end up needed coils sooner than later...
