Question on powder coating g37 coupe sport wheels
Question on powder coating g37 coupe sport wheels
Hey everyone! I had my 13' g37 coupe since April and have loved every minute of the vehicle so far! I haven't delved into the modding game yet. I only added the oem sport spoiler (which makes it look so much better imo).
It's Obsidian black. I'm actually thinking of powder coating my sport wheels to a similar black. I searched and googled around and it appears I'd be looking to pay around $100-150 or so per wheel, maybe higher if I have them on my tires still and they have to dismount them?
Right now I'm just trying to get some info and quotes from different car shops around me. Is anyone in the Atlanta area and have any recommendations on a solid shop to do this for me?
Thanks guys!

Here in cali they charge $100 per 19" wheels, and I have to dismount the tires for them beforehand. The highest I've been quoted was 150 per wheel and another 15 per wheel to dismount and remount the tires. Anything over 150 a wheel is kind of too much IMO unless you go a more crazy or two-tone type of finish.
Now I don't mean to hijack the thread but do you have any slight curb rashes anywhere at all on your wheels? I was planning on powder coating my sport rims too but noticed they had slight curb rashes here and there. I was thinking if I powder coated them anyways it would kind of "hide" the rashes because the new color (plan on doing gloss black) would be powder coated over the rash.

Might consider a gunmetal or anthracite color, would be a nice contrast to the black. I had black 5 spokes on my black G previously and it's nice to have a bit of contrast to offset the sea of black that you would have if you went w/ black wheels. They will look nice but will get lost a bit compared w/ a gunmetal, anthracite, or even a bronze.
Yeah, the murdered out look is over... You have a black car, as do I. You can literally put any color against it and it will look amazing. Not saying you need to go teal, but something subtle like a maroon or bronze or whatever...not black. Agreed.

From pics that I've seen, I dig it. Having only owned small suvs in the past, this is my first coupe/sportier ride. Not shooting for the "ghetto theme" more so a bat mobile theme.
Plus I'm 29. I'm too old to follow what kids do nowadays. Here in cali they charge $100 per 19" wheels, and I have to dismount the tires for them beforehand. No worries at all. Actually I bought this car around April of this year and as of right now, no curb rashes or damage on the wheels. Sorry, not too much of an expert to know if it would go over and fix the rashes, man. That's the color I was going to shoot for too (gloss black). But looking at some opinions given here, I'll be open minded and check some other color options out since I'm sure there will be hundreds available if powder coating lol. Best of luck and hopefully it'll conceal those rashes!
Regardless, thanks as always for the useful advice guys.

I actually found a local shop on Craiglist (in socal tho). Only $250 for the common gloss black, white, gray, etc. They even removed and discarded the crap tires and smoothed out the curb rashes. I thought it was too good to be true but since they were OEM wheels I didn't care too much. To my surprise they did a very good job. Ymmv check your local CL
