AWD. All tires need to have same tread remaining or issue with drivetrain?
I have a 2013 G37xs with 22,800 miles. I brought it to Nissan today and asked them to check my remaining tread on my tires. I have 4/32 front left, front right, and rear right. HOWEVER, I have 8/32 rear left.
The technician was very concerned with the severe fluctuation on that one tire since I have an awd vehicle. He stated he has seen driveshafts break on awd cars with 1-2 thread wear difference and mine being 4 (4/32 vs 8/32) difference was concerning to him.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Is my driveshaft in harm or anything else within the AWD system in harm?

That will equate to 8/32nds difference in diameter, or 1/4". This shouldn't be a problem as it's about 0.85% different in diameter vs. the others and 1% and over seems to be the point where AWD issues arise at speed. It would be ideal to get that tall tire equal to the others, or at least closer. You may want to have that tall tire shaved to equal the others, I know tirerack has this service, might call around and see if any local shops can do that for you. As far as the driveshaft breaking, haven't heard of that happening, but the AWD light will come on your dash letting you know there's something causing a conflict.

I rather not spend the $25 to shave down the one tire as I want to purchase new tires all around very soon. I am just waiting for BFGoodrich to offer a mail in rebate
Does the AWD light come on as a notification or does it only come on once something happens? As in, is it a warning (such as the low light sensor. It is better to get your PSI checked but if you dont nothing drastic will happen. My PSI is always exact btw ) or once the AWD light comes on there is no looking back as something bad has happen.
Since my AWD light has NOT come on at all, then should I not be as concern?

From what I've read the AWD light will come on when there is slip (may also be a bind) detected, and it seems to be when there is over a 1% difference front to back and occurs over 80 mph. So theoretically if you were at 0.5% difference you should be able to go 160 mph without issue (assuming you could be flooring it going downhill, lol). If your AWD light hasn't come on then you should be within it's acceptable range front to back (or aren't going fast enough). Here's an older thread about just that issue~https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-cou...red-setup.html
