Hey y'all
So I'm gunna change my stock wheel color. Is powder coating really the best way to do this? Also I was thinkin about a gun metallic color, but my g37 coupe is grey, so do y'all think this will be the best color or should I get a different one. Also I have a 35% window tint.

I just want to throw this out there - I have a set of aftermarket cast wheels and had them powdercoated - they were probably baked too long and too hot and it caused them to become brittle. Now fast forward about 6-8 months and they are breaking...like fracture cracks around the spoke of one of the 5 spoke wheels. First my front drivers, then my passenger front..now one of the rear has a small crack spidering out of it. I've hit nothing other than daily driving and the occasionaly crappy Oklahoma pot holes...Working with some wheel guys we could only narrow down to the powder coating being the culprit.

With that said, I've always powder coated in the past, but typically on better/forged wheels and never had a problem. Only problem I once had was on a set of race wheels that got off balanced and we had to strip the wheel down and re-coat it. Pretty sure the stock wheels are forged so it should be fine...but I am curious if anyone else has run into this?

I found the manufacturer has a list of trusted 'finishers' that they recommend for their aftermarket wheels...I just wasn't aware at the time and would love to save someone else thousands from my mistake. I went to a bubba deal in Arkansas that had a big shop mostly for farm use so maybe I should have thought that out a little more.

 

G37 wheels are not forged. If I am not mistaken, only wheels that were forged were the 2005-2007 G35 Coupe wheels, they were made by "Rays". They weighed 1lb per inch (19lbs)

2008-2014 G37 wheels are all cast and made by Enkei and weigh 26-27lbs from the dig

 

Ah - The Rays were what I was thinking of - I forgot about the Enkei's...now that I remember my spare it is an Enkei..thanks for clearing that up!
