Help Lego_Maniac pick wheels

Hi

I need some advice and recommendations.

There are a lot of knowledge people on here when it comes to wheel fitment, offset, what looks good, what doesn't, what companies to avoid etc. All of this is not my expertise, as I've never replaced OE wheels in 20+ years of driving and modding cars.

Sandwiched in between a girls weekend and a business trip, both of which left me at home, alone, with my 1 and 3 year old girls, I hit my wife up that I wanted wheels--after 2/3 of a bottle of cab --and she agreed

Ideally, I'd like staggered coupe 19" wheels. The problem is the majority of them have curb rash. Considering my current wheels have never touched a curb and are in near perfect condition, the thought of putting wheels with curb rash all over them is hard to swallow.

Next consideration is anniversary wheels. I'm not as fond of these, but at the same time, it is at least different than all the Gs with coupe wheels.

I've also been looking at the Niche Targas, but can't find much info on them--manufacturing technique, country of origin, etc.

I like OE wheels, made in Japan vs Taiwan (presumably) and a known quality.

Option 1: used Coupe 19" wheels ($700 ish), pay someone to fix the curb rash ($$$), new tires ($$$)

Option 2: New coupe wheels ($1200 ish), new tires ($$$)

Option 3: Anniversary wheels ($1000 ish), new tires ($$$)

Option 4: Niche Targas, ($900 ish), new tires ($$$)

Option 5: ???

Considerations:

Lets assume I'm going to put the same 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 tires on whatever i get to eliminate that variable--although I might be able to save a small amount of $$ on mounting and balancing through a vendor in a package deal.

I'd like to keep a staggered setup.

I'm also under the assumption that at 19x9 or 19x9.5 I want to be at a +30 ish offset for the rear. Part of the desire for wheels is to push the wheels out after lowering it, especially the fronts. So offset suggestions are welcome.

Budget: $1200 (Excluding tires. I could go a little higher, but if I did, it would have to come out of the tire budget, and I'd run OE coupe sizes)

Thoughts or recommendations?

I love these threads

For a staggered setup I'd run 8.5 +30to35 or 9 +35to40 front & 9.5 +40 or 10 +45 Rear (give or take a couple mm in offsets should be fine)
If you like the coupe 19s but want something a bit different here's some MRR HR10s, they have a similar design but a deeper concave for a bit more aggressive look, they should be in your budget range.

In the $1600 range would be the SSRs which as most of you know I'm rather fond of, and they're a Japanese wheel so that's always a good thing.

Ace convex are another option that looks like OEM

I'm getting a deep sense of déjà vu out of this thread.

Lego, your price point of $1200 is low. It just is, unless you find something OEM and used. Pretty sure you'll be inching up to $1500 pretty quick, and that's without shipping and tax. And then expect another $1000+ in good summer tires. Add $150 for sensors, and $150 for mounting/stems/balancing. Also add another $100+ for good lug nuts.

Newt just gave you 3 really good 10-spoke designs, each of which look better than the OEM Sport Coupe rims (IMO). Actually, they're really split 5-spokes... but close enough. G Sport Coupe rims are truly 10-spokes, which is a nice design consideration for no particular reason.

Pretty sure you know where I ended up:

That Niche Targa is very unique. Kind of weird, the way the spokes lift into that deep inner lip. Weird, but cool.

Definitely more style going on here than the OEM Sport Coupe 19's. Maybe too much style.

I've been looking at these for my G. wheelfire.com has them with tires already mounted and balanced (plus free shipping) for around 1,600-1,700 depending on size. I've never heard of the brand of tires that come with them though so I'm not sure how good they are....

Bridgestone Potenza S04s in 245/275 sizes are $870 shipped to my door. Are they PSS, no, but are they probably the second best choice, yeah. My local Firestone dealer will mount and balance tires from Tire Rack for $14.99 + tax. Maybe more for stems, but it should be comfortably under $150.

Can't I reuse the sensors in my duckfeet? Ditto my lug nuts?

A cherry set of used rims are tough to find. Not sure I've ever seen a great curb rash fix. A couple of those that blnewt put out are real close to coupes. I have the anniversaries so I love those. Just a hint of a chrome finish.

I have no idea why people hit so many curbs.

Whoever gets my duckfeet is going to get cherry wheels

PS - tire rack sells on eBay. No tax and free shipping. I think tire rack will charge NC tax when delivered to a NC address. That how I got my tires last month.

Nope, just shipping charges. I've ordered from them before.

Good to know they are on ebay.

I wouldn't go with the anniversary wheels for one reason, they cover up the BBK. Don't get me wrong, I have a set and I love the design of them, but the spokes are too wide and they do tend to cover the brakes, which is a shame because the BBK is probably one of my favorite aesthetic features of the RWD sports package.

I agree with Brad. Some of those wheels he posted look great, imo it would be worth it to look into them.

If you go with the coupe 19's I would highly recommend buying new. That way you wouldn't have to worry about curb rash and then you wouldn't have to worry about having a bent rim, like I am which was undisclosed when I purchased them and I've been having difficulty finding someone to repair them.

Great post. Agreed on the BBK and anniversary wheels, it's one of the issues I have with them.

Brad knows his wheels

That's my fear with used wheels.

Go through one of the forum sponsors. Jason on here was great to deal with. I ended up getting a set of the matte gunmetal M580s for my xS sedan.

I was thinking about the thread Brad started for me last winter.

If a few hundred dollars is the only difference between first and second choice on something as critical as high-performance tires...

Well, you know what the right answer is, man. You know.

Coincidentally, I was thinking about how nice it is to have a decent suspension and awesome performance tires this afternoon, as I shot out of a 360* on-ramp into the highway. It's the little things like that which make it all worthwhile.

Yes. I was assuming you'd keep the duckfeet. But probably not a strong need for winter wheels in NC.

If you go with another set of OEM Nissan wheels, then yes. But if you go aftermarket, then no. Aftermarket rims almost universally use a tapered seat on the lug nuts, whereas the OEM design is a flat washer lug nut.

Here's my lug nuts thread:
