TPMS question
I heard an auduble blip with a warning light and a lit TPMS on the dash.
Fortunately I carry a tire pressure gauge and pulled over to check the tires.
The drivers side front only had 20 lbs of air. Drove to the nearest gas station and filled the tire with 50lbs.
Made it home to a local tire repair where the pulled this out

Some people ignore the TPMS light but it sure saved my a$s
Glad I didn't have to change a tire.

I wish it did but it saved by butt while driving home from work last week at about 70MPH

TPMS w/ low profile tires is a real plus as well, very tough to visually notice a big drop in pressure.
Even at 20psi a car is perfectly drivable at reduced speed.. My previous car had the tire readouts. That was very useful. I had it go off a week after I got my G. Screw in tire, but my gauge still read 26PSI.
You don't want to drive 20 MPH on the Parkway and Turnpike in NJ.

I don't think much of the TPMS system in our cars. It has never actually alerted me to low pressures. When I purchased my car, the fronts were at 28-30 psi and I experience serious tram lining in ruts on the road. This made for a very weird pull when changing lanes on a highway. After a week I checked the tire pressures and found they were both very low (28-30 is much lower than the recommended 35), corrected the issue and my tram lining issues were gone.
Another time, whilst driving home on a cool night, the warning buzzer chimed and the light went on. I pulled over and inspected all my tires, visually they were fine. I pulled out my tire pressure gauge and they all measured close to 36-37 psi. This made sense as I keep them at 35 when cool and I had driven a 20-30km. I went home, parked, checked again in the morning and the light was still on and all tires were at 35psi. This was late fall, a few days later I swapped over to my winters (I don't run TPMS in the winter). Light stayed on all winter. Come spring when I put my summers back on the light had disappeared.

Personally i think the TPMS is BS/useless.. How good is a TPMS if it doesnt tell you which tire is low....WTF INFINITI!!!!
All my tires are at 31psi and my light is now on.. So now its a freakin game to see which sensor is out!!!
Can we install aftermarket sensors? Will they have to be sync'd with the system somehow after installation?
any input is appreciated..

If you have a sensor out then just get it replaced. However 31psi where 35 is recommended may be low enough to turn on the light. I don’t know if aftermarket sensors would do you any good in your case. But if the lack of TPMS telling you which tire is low bothers you that much, trade up to an Infiniti M, as they do come with that feature.
I’m afraid you’re missing the point. The system tells you that a tire is low, perhaps at a dangerous level. A $10 tire gauge will tell you which tire that is. That information, albeit not as specific as you would like, is meant for you to take some action before you get killed from a spontaneous blowout.

Yea, maybe 31 may be low. (i have a $5 tire gauge) I was ranting as this is the first car i've had with TPMS. I am used to checking pressure the old school way. I understand the importance. I also know the stealership will rape me for $$$ to get a new sensor. I was curious if we could buy a sensor from some place other than the stealership?
FYI, my dealer wants $90 for one sensor!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can buy one sensor as long as you know exactly the date of your car was made.
Remember G37 coupes made in March 2010 and newer have different sensors from the coupes made in February 2010 and older. Those sensors are not exchangeable. This also applies to after market sensors as well.
I bought a set of sensors from Discounted Wheel Warehouse for my summer tire set and they work perfectly. Now I can switch back and forth between summer and winter tire sets without worrying the TPMS light on. There's DIY how to reset/learn your TPMS in the forum and it's easy to follow.
