Deelow's Wheel search hit a pothole
Well Gentlemen, I had a set of wheels close in hand but the wifey and money(to repair) hath taken that option away. The wheels would have required $125 each to repair the lips which still comes in $200 under retail but tire cost for the front and back is close to $900 so that did it in ya know. I'm stuck trying to figure out where to go with my wheels setup. I have a set of 18" anniversary wheels (18 x 8.5 all around) I'm in talks to buy at the moment,($600) but I wonder what you guys think I should do. Should I save my cash and wait for a set of aftermarket wheels new or used to pop up or should I buy these and spacers along with a drop and call it good for a while? I originally had my heart set on the 370Z wheels 19 x9.5 all around and they still speak to me lol. Rochester's thread may not have helped me as I keep reading and looking at wheels every day. LOL. I want to be as original as I can, but I want wheels that aren't so different they're ugly. I eventually want to upgrade my brakes to the Akembo brake kit. I have a lot of ideas for my car but to me wheels set the tone so that's where I want to start. It was the same with my Honda Accord years ago, my WRX, my Maxima, and my Acura. Please any advice or constructive help is appreciated!

I decided to go OEM of sorts and went with the G35 Ray's. I had to buy two sets to get them squared then powdercoated them. I do like the 370wheels, I think Z1 has some used ones?
Beyond that I'm afraid I can't be much help. I like some aftermarket rims but I'm going to be sticking with the Rays for awhile I do believe. They'll clear the Akebonos, once I get my new calipers in and swapped out for the current Akebonos I should be in good shape I hope.

I know they're fairly common but coupe 19s are a great option, you don't see them on sedans too often. You'll see them often on this site, but in the real world that's not pages & pages of Infinitis they still stand out. The coupe 19s have a slight stagger so you can run a 245/285 setup for perfect diameter variance for your AWD X, and clear a BBK if you get one down the road. If you want to have something even more unique you could get them powdercoated w/ a unique shade that goes w/ your G. I've seen sets of coupe 19s from as low as $600 fairly often and they're a quality Enkei wheel that's not too heavy.
That's what I'd do on a lighter budget but still wanting quality.

Thanks guys. I'm still deciding what to do. I've looked for coupe 19s but so far its a no go. I had a guy with a set before I had my friend messaged me about his 20s. Those got sold already. I'm gonna look local as well and hope I get lucky. Color contrast is another one to figure out lol! Black goes well with a lot of colors so it looks like photoshop no matter what I do!

So here we go guys. Finally got some OEM sport wheels. They are painted orange underneath. The outer rim is Plastidiped Black with orange painted logo. I'm trying to decide what color to paint them now. I threw in a picture of my car for reference lol. Whatcha think? I'm either planning on going with ClickClacks setup (20mm spacers all around and 225/45/19s and 245/40/19s. Or I could go with 245/40/19s and 285/35/19s. Which setup would be better in your opinions? I'm thinking of getting spacers no matter what to make them flush, I'm also looking at some swift springs.

It's different. I'm not sure if you're wanting the back over orange look or if you're just experimenting with different colors, i.e. All orange or all black. If it's the black over orange look you're going after then you're going to have to spend some time when you clean your car to clean behind the spokes. Most people can get away with not cleaning the inside of the wheel, but if you really want the orange to pop then you'll have to make sure they're always clean. Otherwise it just looks out of place. Maybe throw a good coating of wax on the inside before putting them on your car. I'd be interested to see them on your car.
If you are going to repaint those (and I think you should) I would suggest a gloss gunmetal. I think black cars can really pull it off, and keep the look OEM. Also going gloss instead of a matte finish will not make them look as if they are covered in brake dust all the time.

The powdercoat shop will bead blast those puppies nice and smooth. I agree with Motoboat... A glossy black chrome/gunmetal finish would look amazing, and just different enough from stock to be special.
Orange with a yellow Fuji cap, and then plastidipped? WTF? There aren't enough facepalm smilies on the internet to adequately express how stupid that is.
Congrats on your find, Deelow.
Ditto on the Gunmetal, this is a great opportunity since you're wanting new tires to just go ahead and do it proper w/ quality powdercoating. Either tire sets will work w/ your X (diameter-wise) it really depends what look you're wanting. A more OEM look and a set that will be better for snow would be the 225/245 stagger. If snow isn't much of a concern then by all means I'd go aggressive w/ the 245/285 set. Glad you found your wheels Deelow, it's going to really change your G for the better. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Oh, and I wouldn't buy any spacers until you get everything else first, including the lowering springs, then decide exactly how much spacer you'll need.

Thanks guys Lol! I had a chuckle myself this morning, when the guy showed them to me my reaction was the same....I'm gonna repaint those bad boys. I think he was disappointed I wasn't satisfied with the Bronco orange!

Do you guys think a GTR gunmetal color would look good? Thats what I'm leaning towards. I was thinking Swift Springs, but a friend told me I'd need a camber kit front and rear, which makes me wonder if coilovers might be the better option, which will take some convincing the wife lol.

If your powdercoater can copy the GTR color that would look very nice. I guess you'd have to send the center caps to get painted since they're plastic or leave them chrome (if the paint comes off cleanly).
