Any problem mixing front and rear tire types?

I planned to upgrade the factory Bridgestone RE050s to an oversize set of Michelin PSS or PS A/S 3s next spring or summer, but I picked up a chunk of metal on the freeway tonight and lost one of the rear tires before I could get pulled over and change it out. Would it cause any handling problems to replace both rear tires now with oversize Michelins (275/35-19s vs the 245/40-19s that came on it)?

Should not be a problem, people do it all the time.

I've done it and its no problem. If you went to an all season tire it may because the traction and handling characteristics would be different

In theory you're going to change your car's balance somewhat, though going to the wider rears will probably have much more of an effect than changing brands. Going to A/S 3s will probably be more noticeable because they're all-seasons rather than pure performance tires though I still doubt it would be really problematic unless you're tracking the car (and by problematic I mean you'll be slower, not you'll fly off the track and explode). As long as you don't do something crazy like combine summer tires and snow tires everything should be fine.

Thanks all. I've been pleasantly surprised at how well the G handles during 'spirited' street driving and didn't want to screw that up. Looks like I'll start the fat-tire change-out a little earlier than planned.

I've been running mixed tires for the past 15,000 miles. One OEM Bridgestone rear got a screw in the sidewall and I put two 275 Hankook V12 on the rear. It's been run on the track (and street) with no problem.
