Post Winter setup?

I have a 2008 G37S coupe and for those who are daily driving throughout the winter, I was wondering what you guys are doing for a winter wheels/tires setup?

I'm from southern Ontario so we should be expecting a decent amount of snow. I have the OEM 19's and Potenzas on stock suspension. Eventually I am aiming for a minor drop and new summer wheels, but this is what I'm running for now. My options are:

1) New winter 18's and tires. I had Michelin X-Ice 3's in my last G sedan and they were fantastic. Anything I should look for in winter wheels, or wheel/tire combinations? This is currently what I'm leaning towards - a dedicated winter setup for safety (that still looks good!).

2) New winter tires mounted on my current OEM 19's. More expensive tires, but I save the cost of buying new wheels. However, I read that smaller wheels are more effective in the winter. A concern is the extra wear and tear on my primary wheels (I have indoor overnight parking, but during the day I'd be parking outdoors).

Thoughts and suggestions? What do you guys think? Thanks!

18" wheels will not fit on the G37s due to the big brakes but if you look on the private classifieds on here there is a member selling the stock 19" wheels with blizzak snow tires for a $1000.

Interesting, can you elaborate on this?

It actually depends on the spoke pattern, I currently have ASA Sport Edition 18" wheels and Blizzak LM-60's on my 08 G37s that I bought from another member here. Tire rack sells the same rims with Michelin X-Ice3's for about 1288. Seems like a good deal for new rims and good snow tires.

I have been using Blizzaks on 3 different cars, love them! Mine is not a S so I have the 18" OEM wheels which I use.

Have you ever used Michelin X-ice's? The reviews for the X-ice3's have been very positive but I wonder how they compare to the Blizzaks. The set I have now I will probably use for this season then get a fresh set next year.

Also, about how many miles have you been getting out of the Blizzaks?

They actually DO HAVE 18' wheels that fit over the breaks. When I got the 37, my dealer told me my black winter rims off my 35 would fit. They didn't because of the breaks. He got me 4 wheels ......no charge!

If you look at the brakes and wheel clearance on the G37s you will see there is not much space between them if you don't get the right offset they want clear them, but if you look at the back brakes there is plenty of clearance.

Please don't spread information that is incorrect. There are LOTS of wheels that clear the brakes on the G37s. I drove around all last winter with Blizzaks on 18 inch wheels (a fantastic combination btw).

Just go on tire rack and they will display a bunch of wheels which will clear the brakes.

Never used the Michelin's so I can't comment. The oldest set of Blizzaks are for the wifes 08 G Coupe, they have 4 seasons on them (less than 7,500 miles a season) and they look brand new. Basically with Winter tires you can't put them on until the temp is consitently below 40 degrees F ( I believe) and take them off as soon as the weather warms up. The rubber on winter tires is soft and will wear out quick unless it's cold.
