Anyone running Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS?

Time for new tires and on the fence with all season and summer rubber. The G is becoming the family ride, so taking that into account is what has me considering the all seasons.

Current choices are Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position or the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Heard great things about the PSS, but nothing on the RE970AS. You guys have any experience with them?

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A on now and they are ending their useful life. Currently my only gripe with these is about half way through their life (8K miles) the road noise is significant. By the end of their life the road noise in bordering on unbearable. I want something grippy but its got to be quiet.

Thanks

If you're looking for a quiet tire, I've had great experiences with the Bridgestone 960's. I'm afraid I haven't even heard of the 970's until your post. Looks like they've been out for a while though . Have you also considered Conti DWS'? I've heard great things about those as well. 960's on the other hand are great - although I can't seem to remember how quiet they are. I have them on my OE wheels, but I'm currently still on my summer tires. They're quieter than the OE 050's that come with the car, but by how much, I can't recall...(I remember it being significant, but then I lowered my car). Sorry, not much help here...GL with your choice!

I've heard bad things about the PSS tires.

i can vouch for the 960s as well, super quiet tires. looks like the 970s may be a newer model

From the reviews I have seen, the 970 supposedly performs better than the 960. Knowing you both have good experiences with the 960 is a help. Thanks for the input.

I have 2 RE970AS Pole Position tires sitting in my garage. They will be replacing my 960s. I've read nothing but great reviews on the 970s and are a replacement for the 960s like ncpalafox said. The rubber feels real soft and sticky so I'll see what the real world mileage is on them. I don't do burnouts but I know I don't get close to 40k on those tires.

970 is a good tire, and its quieter than the RE050A, but I would prefer the pilot super sport tires by Michelin. The OEM sizes are cheaper compared to the bigger wheel diameters

Good to know about the mileage. Even if its not 40,k if its longer than the summers, Ill be happy. Looks like these will be my new tires in December. Thanks.

Just got them about a month ago. They're nice and grip the road well, but a bit of sticker shock here. It was about 1000 installed....and somehow, I'm not 1000 dollars happy. Believe it or not, they're a bit coarser at highway speeds than the OE Dunlops A/S with 40K miles that I took off.

Have had them about 2 months and 3k miles. A bit more noise than the sportmaxx but not much. Pretty happy with them, better than what I took off, bit stiffer sidewalls, better in the rain for sure.

Good info, thanks to all above. Only had summer Bridgestone Potenza RE050A on my G's, so that is all that I know, but I have to imagine that after 12K miles, anything would be quieter.

I am sure I will miss the grip of the summer tires, but need to be practical for the time being. If I ever want to go back to summers it will be a great excuse to pick up some 19's.

I have the 960s and they are fine. I assume the 970s are better. Don't assume that they will necessarily be quieter than the RE050s...my 960s have a different noise, but I can't exactly call them quiet. Handling will be way different with the swap, so get ready for that. Not bad, but the OE tires are more responsive. The 960s have a high rolling resistance...not sure if the 970s are better. I get worse mileage with the 960s than the RE050s. Also, check out Consumer Reports..they rated both AS and summer UHP tires recently, and none of the Bridgestones made the list, so it may be worth checking out some of the other options.
