Widest tire on stock rims
I was wondering how wide of a tire I can get for my stock rims.
Sport sedan 6mt OEM rims (dimensions in inches)
front: 18x7.5
Rear: 18x8.5
I was thinking 245-45-r18 up front
and 265-40-r18 in rear
Will these wide tires fit the stock rim dimensions or do I have to go skinnier?
Thanks.

My bro has a rear tire of
255-45-r18
on
18x8.5
I was thinking i would get something slightly wider but the consensus seems to be the otherway
I actually like the stock rims, but I feel the tires are not aggressive enough.

The problem with mounting tires that are larger than the recommended width of the wheel is that it stretches and distorts the contact patch of the tire. Can you put a wider tire (like a 275) on an 8.5" rim? With a lot of work, yes. Should you? No. The resulting tire will have buldging sidewalls and actually less contact with the road than a 245 aspect tire. Don't make your G less performance oriented by trying to stretch a tire.

I know of no manufacturer that recommends putting 275's on 8.5" wide wheels. 255's are okay, and i believe 265 really is the maximum recommended width, not taking into account aspect ratios and speedo issues.
The point is, the OP can certainly put a wider tire on their rim and still be within manufacturer's specs.
