I used my stock rims last winter and they were flawless. This winter I'm going to keep my 20"s on and see what the difference is in grip. I'm expecting something similar because I'm using all season tires. If there is alot of salt on the road they will mess up the finish of the rims, so you might have to get them refinished again in the spring/summer

I've used painted rims for winter and they hold up great. Stay away from chrome during the winter as it will get messed up by the snow ice and salt.

Depends on the conditions you drive in. I've use oem painted rims on my civic for 4 Canadian winters and saw no significant damage other than usual wear. I've seen chrome plated finish oem rims start peeling off after 2-3 Canadian winters...

The 18" MB Wheels rims I bought last year held up great through the winter. Absolutely no issues at all. (and they fit over the BBK!!)

you can keep any wheel on in the winter if your tires can handle it, as long as you wash down your rims frequently. sometimes very hard when its freezing out. use wax or a good wheel polish and the salt wont hurt it at all. then again its all about what type of weather your really dealing with. i have continental extreme contact dws (high performance all season) im running mine in the winter.

we all have rims.

if you have expensive wheels, don't use them in a harsh winter. snow = salt + giant pot holes (due to plow trucks).

low profile "rims" especially 19-20" like you are suggesting... if you combine these with salt and pot holes you WILL

Got Konig wheels on my previous car. 2 winters later rust is building up on the nuts.

I'm using 17" steel wheels on mine. Montreal winters can be harsh and I don't really want to spend $400+ on some nice rims only to have them get ruined by the excess of salt they put around here... The steel wheels cost me $190.

one thing that might be an issue though is that the guy at the garage told me i should get rim covers for them since he says rust will attack the wheel and might ruin the nuts.
