staggered rims and AWD

so just like the oil threads... which theres no answer for... only opinions.. i find myself in the same situation again- Can i put G37S coupe 19" wheels on my G37XS Sedan? the height of the front wheels would be different than the rear.. i forget which is which but the profile on 1 tire is 40 and the other is 45 will this mess w the awd? will the car read different rotations and confuse the computer?

most advise to not run staggered on awd but plenty of people pull it off with success. as long as your rolling diameter is close you should be ok.

do a search for 'awd staggered' on google. it will pull up a list of other forums who run staggered on awd. again it can be done, but can be risky for tranmission.

I wouldnt recommend running tires that are significantly different between front and rear.

Im actually running the coupe 19s on my X with 245/40/19 tires all around and have had no issues so far. Rolling diameter is the same.

hope that helps

aren't the coupe 19" wheels of different diameters front and rear? 19x8.5 and 19x9" ??

uhh... the diameter is the same.. 19. but the widths are different. 8.5 front and 9.0 in rear. You can run the same size tire tho, it doesnt make that much of a difference visually. I get compliments on my wheels all the time, and no one ever questioned my tires.

This coming from a vendor who's been staggering wheels on awd cars since 2003, it's just fine to stagger an awd vehicle. When you are ready to place an order on your vossens, give us a call and we will cover with you the perfect tire sizes to keep the rolling diameter not only close to each other front to rear but also close to stock.

Most that say you can't stagger awd cars are not familiar with a Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi R8, ect which all come from the factory with staggered wheels on AWD systems.

What seems to be confusing everyone here is the definition of stagger. As I understand it, that means different tire widths NOT diameters.

Although it seems to make good sense to keep widths the same all around to reduce undue leverage of wheel against suspension and driveline...as well as trying to maintain close to stock unsprung weight...I can't imagine how slightly different widths from front to rear would be terrible...BUT...you give Infiniti a solid reason to reject any warranty claims related to driveline, AWD system etc if you change from stock.

I am currently looking to go +1 or +2 on my AWD Sport sedan but I will maintain as close to stock diameter as possible.

it's the difference in rolling diameters, which is a function of tire width and aspect ratio and diameter that is the issue. since the awd system in our cars determines the amount of power to be transferred between the front and the rear based on the difference in wheel rotation from front compared to the rear. therefore, a different tire in the front and the back WILL have a different rolling circumference and therefore the awd system WILL react to this and transfer power accordingly. therefore it seems that different tires in the front and rear should not be used. so, anyone want to comment?

cool...didn't mean to sound argumentative... just see so much chatter on this subject....with little real or accurate info.

IMHO...anyone with AWD would be foolish to mess around with any mods that run the risk of conflicting with how this very complex system operates.
