Ok...so here I am almost ready to replace the OEM tires on my '08 G37S (in a month or so, due to noise & lack of wet traction), and I've got 21k+ on the OEM's...and so I've been trying to decide on the tire sizes & tire model.

I know the fav's right now are the Yoko S-Drive's or Han V12's and a 245/40 & 275/35 combo on stock 19" rims...that's a given, since I did the research. Though, I'm sort of leaning toward the V12's (due to slightly better "dry" traction over the S-Drive's, and the fact that I can NOT get a 285/35 in an S-Drive ).

My question is...are there going to be any issues with the "fitment" or "perfomance" of running the choice of 255/285 V12's on my OEM 19" rims that I should be concerned about, since I'll totally be maxing-out my rims potential?? Also...opinions on using 15-20mm spacers with this combo???

FYI...I do like to "DRIVE" , I am a 'driver' in every sense of the word...however, this car will NOT see track-duty, Street-Fun ONLY (and only on good roads, we do have some rough roads here...BUT I never exceed 20mph on the bad roads)...though the wife has topped 130mph (at times on smooth roads, but she hasn't beat my personal best of 186+mph at the track in a Porsche 911 Turbo...Yeh, Baby!!! ...lol)

Anyways, I'm in NW FL...so it's mostly dry during the year, aside from a few big storms here & there that'll cause ponding on the roads. Also, I'm choosing the 255/285 combo, cuz I do like a little meaty bulge with my sidewalls...personal preference.

If the "size" choice becomes an issue, then the S-Drive's may come back into play as a possible option. With that now all noted...fellow forum members, your insight and opinions are welcomed!! (FYI...that includes "Neal @ Tire Rack" too, since I may be purchasing from you...lol)

255 for the fronts and 285s for the rear on OEM tires are not recommended, I did read somewhere that someone on here was running 285s on his OEM rears but don't know how they're holding up or what his driving conditions are. As to spacers, I'm running 20mms all around on 275s with a very mild drop (Eibachs) and I'm rubbing in the rear on dips and in the front when cornering hard in Autocrosses.

More like every porsche driver's preference haha

 

I'd like to run 255/285. But most people run 245/275. IF you have a low drop or plan to drop low, might want to consider 15mm all around. They should clear, but you might want to contact a vendor just to make sure. They should know.

 

@ G37Sam - Oops, ya got me...lol!!! Yeh, I am a fan of Porsches (specifically 911's & Cayman's)...if I ever make enough $$$, I'll be looking for one in the future.

Meanwhile...the G will have to suffice. So, I did some more research & it seems the 255's fit the front better than the 245's (according to some posts on here)...and the biggest issue with running 285's out back, is if you drop the car.

FYI...I have no plans for lowering the car, it will stay stock...my next car will be a little more custom though.

So...with that said...does anyone think there's any issues to be concerned about (before making my decision)?? I appreciate the insight given so far...Thank you!

 

I am sure you can fit 285's in the back with enough neg camber. There have been people to do 305, but on aftermarket wheels.

 

285 on 9-inch rims... You will be pinching in the rear with 285s... unless you get some weaksauce sidewall ones.

255 on 8.5 should be no problem tho'.

 

Also, if you do 255/275 setup, you'll be going with oversteer setup especially if you have hard setting on the anti-sway bars (not sure if you have them) so be careful when you drive hard into the corners.

 

i have 285 back wit 20in n dropped wit eilbach. i do hit the fender when drivin fast over the small bump. when i drive slow on bump, it doesnt touch. mostly it hit during freeway. u know a lot of freeways have small bump. it doesnt hit at 65 mph but it does hit little faster like around 75 or higher. so it help me to stay slow lol.

 

@ BLUESLATE - Do you think 285's will pinch very bad on the OEM 19" rears?? Also...No, as stated earlier...the car is totally stock, so no sway bars...therefore, does the oversteer scenario still apply???

i dont think ur 19" stock wit 285 rear will touch the fenders even u drop wit eibach. but if u do, u need to bend the screws to the rear bumper under the fenders.

 

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine running 255/285, especially with stock height. I'm lowered on Eibach with 245/255 and there's still about 1" tuck in the front and 1.25" tuck in the rear from the fender.

 

also,I've seen 295's on a 9.5 rim and it looks normal.

 

I switched from my s drives to the v12 and you will not be disappointed ..

 

UPDATE!!!

Just ordered my new tires this weekend!!...Hankook V12's 255/40/19 (F) and 285/35/19 (R) for stock 19" OEM rims. I'm guessing that I'm the first person to do this, since I've haven't heard about it from anyone else yet. So...if all goes well, they'll be installed & aligned next Saturday (30th). If it all works out & looks good...I'll post some pics asap (kinda in the middle of moving, so have patience & keep checking back for updates!!).

stock tires being 225 front 245 rear you can run 20mm front and 25mm rear dropped on eibach. if you have eibach front and tanabe rear you can even put 35mm spacers in the rear. take it from there and whatever tires you run take the difference and add half to what it will stick out more. for example for 275 tire on stock with eibach rears, your tires will stick out 15mm more so you are ok with 15mm spacers. but for bigger tires, i highly dont recommend 285 on stock rims. 285 is for 10.5 inch wheels, not 9. besides its just going to look bad. trust me bigger tires on a wheel not made for it wont give you better handling. you should go with 275 rears and 245 front.
