Lots of sizes in 17"from 45,50,55

 

are there any drawbacks or advantages to them? I heard having a higher tire might help during winter for some reason.

 

How many of you guys get a snow tire/rim package vs mounting snow tires on the stock wheels (and mounting/unmounting the All Seasons twice a year)?

 

It costs about 75-100 to have the tires swapped on your one set of wheels, per season. 100$ in my region. So that is twice per calendar year. Plus its not great for your wheels. May as well purchase rims.

There's a number of people that are getting rid of the stock rims.

 

You can get a set of inexpensive wheels from a number of places that don't look bad. I picked up a set at Discount Tire for around $130 each. They held up quite nicely.

 

I've got 20" rims on my 2011 x so I am definitely planning on putting some 17's on for winter in MN.

 

Blizzacks as well all the way around, drives awesome in the snow. On ice not as good as the Nordic were on my Maxima but still pretty good.

 

Have Blizzak ws60's on my g35x (2007), just got michelin Xi2 on my G37x - I think I prefer the Blizzaks even after 2 years of use compared to my brand new Michelins

Yeah, get yourself extra wheels. Also, if you're on 18" OEM wheels, go 17". 17" tires cost less, have more sidewall to protect you from stupid potholes

I had Pilot Alpin PA2s on my '07 G35S and when I got my G37xS I put on Pilot Alpin PA3s and they've been awesome in the winter weather here in minnesota.

I put the Michelin Pilot Alpins on my 2011 G37xS SE in 17" on some modo rims from Tire Rack.. These tires are almost as quiet as the 18" all seasons I'll use in the summer and they really hold their line well in the snow and stop nicely up here in Vt.

 

Just started running the General Altimax Arctics 215/55R17 on the stock 17" wheels. So far they've been great in the snow and ice. Dry handling could be better since these are not "performance" snow tires, but in the winter I'm not so concerned about that.

 

I installed Pirelli SotoZero 245/45R18 on my 2010 G37xS. I installed on the stock 18" rims.

So far I like it a lot. Installed Blizzaks WS60s (195/?? R15) on my wife's Mazda 3 hatchback. That's the recommended downsized winter tire. Test drove both on a very icy parking lot, didn't see much difference between the mazda and the G. Other than acceleration which was much better on my G, everything else was about the same (stopping, turning). Note that you couldn't go more than 20-30 Km/h before steering has zero response.

I'll test again on some packet snow lot later this year.

 

I'd suggest buying new wheels with your tires. That way, you can easily change them out yourself and you also don't mangle your tires and wheels. You can always sell your old wheels once you're done with them. If you end up buying another G, you can probably use the same winter wheels with that car as well.
