How to ship tires?

I need to ship some tires only (no wheels). Can someone who's done before it tell me the best and most economical ways to do that?

Are you asking as far as "shipping company" wise or how to package them?

Tie em together (with something strong) and slap the shipping label on the tire.

Every tire company that ships does this.

Use copious amounts of shrink wrap after you tie em together if you're unsure that the ties will hold.

Fill them with cocaine, do a layer of coffee, cover everything in shrink wrap and slap a label on them.

Two together as stated and ship them as a two package shipment. 1of2 and 2of2.

^^Yep. There you have it. Use some of that electrical cable you have laying around taking up space to tie 'em up

I have shipped tires several times. Mike is correct in that is the way Tire Rack does it, but they have a commercial account and UPS is familiar with working with them hence the good shipping rates.

I will give you one big hint that I learned the hard way. Take them to a UPS drop off and have them calculate the shipping charges there. I did one set using on-line method like I do for all other shipping. They picked them up at the door, but then later I got automatically charged for oversize on 3 of the tires to the tune of about $50 a tire. I shipped all 4 separately that time. It took me several calls to get it corrected, but they finally agreed that they were wrong.....so save yourself the hassle......

24" long cable ties FTW! I only had to use 6 and have had these things forever in my garage, finally got to use them.

Online estimate says about $50 for a pair based on weight and size. But I have run into the same situation before when shipping an exhaust - put in the weight and dimensions correctly and shipped it and got hit with an extra $65 in shipping which the dickhead buyer wouldn't cover or even meet me half way even though the agreed to pay actual shipping.

Mmm I love cable ties. I remember I used to use large cable ties to tie people's hands and feet together when they fell asleep in public areas at the dorms in college.

I do agree on the shipping: take it directly to a UPS/FedEx distribution center.
