Winter Tires/Rim Package
Winter Tires/Rim Package
Hey all,
i am going to be one of those drivers who lives in Michigan and commutes 60 miles each day from work/home.
Anyway, tirerack winter package make you buy the Blizzak 18in tires with rims. And thats all they offer.
Any other suggestions? What dimensions can i put on the G.
Let me know, i appreciate it.

I have them and depending on what model you're driving I would get them!
I love mine, by far one of the best winter tires around. We got pounded with snow this winter and I NEVER had any issues!

same with Michigan. I have the G37s 6mt. I also thinking about putting a few sand bags in the trunk. Ive heard good things about Blizakks. So you feel pretty confident with them? The car seems to handle nice and you dont get stuck?

yeah you can buy my stock wheels and tires for a good price shipped. they have less than 3000 miles on them. pm me for more info. they won't help you get around but hey they look good.
I have a 6MT G37 and bought the 18" Sport Edition rims from Tirerack as my winter rims. Then I ordered the Nokian WR G2 235/50/18 from www.tirefactory.net -- ask for Josh (he'll remember me ... guy with the blue G37). They are 'all-season' tires with the snowflake emblem on them -- so they can be used for winter use. Rubber is a harder compound than a true winter tire ... but it serves my needs (I live near Detroit)
Since you're from Grand Rapids ... you might want to buy a set true winter tires, like the Blizzaks (225/50/18) or a set of Nokian Hakkapillettas (235/50/18). I think the thinner tire (225) is better for us -- more traction.
The thing is, the Blizzaks lose their winter compound about 1/2 down the tread ... so if you're driving 60 miles/day ... they might not last beyond 2-3 seasons. Just a thought. But I think winter tires are like an insurance policy -- you never know when you're gonna need it. So don't try and save a couple pennies (well, couple bucks) on a tire that does not suit your total needs.
Detroit gets far less snow than Grand Rapids. I'd go with the Blizzaks (cheaper than the Nokians and easier to locate / replace if necessary).
Good luck.
