Curb Rash

Well I discovered the first damage to the G yesterday. I looks like I sustained "curb rash" on the front passenger wheel. I believe I did it the other night when I went to the gym and parked in a corner slot. The interesting thing is that I am usually very careful and I don't even remember hearing any scrapping sounds. I am very mad at myself though

Luckily the dealer has a wheel specialist that has a mobile type service that can repair it for about $75

$75 is a pretty good deal, most people report spending $100+

That's what I thought too.

One thing I don't understand is I believe our wheels are clear coated. How would a mobile wheel replacement service bake on the clear coat finish?

OK..here's the deal. Most of the places that repair wheels for you do it on the spot. I was a little concerned because none of them stated that they would actually bake the finish. One said that he does not bake it but puts it under an ultra violet heat lamp and electronically dries it.

I just contacted a guy who had repaired my wife's Honda S2000 wheel and his process appears to be more comprehensive. He comes to you, takes the wheel off and brings it back in 2 days. His process is as follows:

1) Sand/prep the entire wheel
2) Paint it/Powder coat it
3) Clear coat it
4) Bake it for 45 min

His price is around $200 vs $75 but sounds like a better overall process. What do you think?

go with $75, you won't notice a difference.

Thanks, but I was more concerned about longevity of the paint finish including proper surface prep. Here's another analogy...touch up vs complete paint with proper surface prep

I would take a chance with the $75. But if you want the peace of mind, go with the $200.

Thanks guys. I'm going to sleep on it. The only thing I don't like about the $200 option is there's really no reason to sand and re-paint the entire wheel when only a portion of it is messed up
