General wheel question

In researching the hundreds of wheels available out there, I'm trying to understand what constitutes 'quality'. What's the real-world difference between a $300 wheel and a $1,500 wheel? Can a wheel that costs between, say, $200-$500 each be just as serviceable as a higher end one? For a non-track G37, I mean... how much of price differences are attributed to simply brand identity?

I'd like to know - if you take two similar-looking wheels.. one at $600-$1,000 each and the other costing $200-300 each ... each weighing roughly the same... is it possible to get the same performace, durability and ride quality out of the $300.00 wheels as can be expected with the $1,000 wheel?

Perhaps there's an intro/guide to custom wheels that someone can point me to... also, it seems that no one has listed the weight of the stock 19" sport wheels anywhere - any one have some insight?

Of course it is possible. I have had several cars throughout the years and I've purchased many different types of wheels. I've paid $700 per wheel and have them bend/break on me and i've spent $100 per wheel and they were awesome.

It's like comparing a hyundai to a ferrari. Sure, they both have AC and a cd player, but for the extra $200,000 you get a lighter and faster can, a better looking car, and a guarantee that you wont see 100 just like it on your way to work,

I just dropped a few grand on a set of Volks. Why did I do it? First of all I am an idiot. But, that aside...

I wanted a lighter wheel that wouldn't compromise strength. I wanted a wheel that no one else had on their g37 (yet). And I wanted a wheel that would stand out.

I can go on and on..but you get my point. Do your research on wheel brands. Just because it doesn't cost thousands of dollars, doesn't make it bad

Sure it is possible... I think in some cases, you pay for the name, but trust me, there is definitely quality differences in $300 and $1000 wheels. Post up some you are comparing and maybe we can let you know where we see the quality differences.

Thanks for the comments so far... since I'm not tracking, I imagine if I throw on some $200-300 wheels that LOOK damn good, weigh the same or less than stock 19s, and have all the right fittments, I should be gtg.

I appreciate the Ferrari-Hyundai reference.... but all wheels are the same in that they do nothing but turn around and around! Sure, strength/durability may come into play.... but i'm a new enthusiast - and would rather sink the extra few grand on performance-bearing mods.

There are a few sick looking wheels from Avarus and Zinik that I'm liking a LOT...
