Snow Mode

Does anyone have any more details on what exactly "Snow" Mode does on the drive selector **** in the M37s? I believe it changes the throttle response, so you don't spin the tires on a start, and it may even start the transmission in 2nd gear. What I really want to know is if it changes the power distribution for those with all wheel drive. Also, is Snow mode meant to be driven on the highway? or just roads under 45mph? the manual seems to give very little detail about these modes.

I've heard you can drive with it just like you can in Eco mode...I don't think it does anything to transfer power...just cuts throttle and watches wheel spin more closely.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed. I think it actually has a nice balance between the jerky start of "normal" and a much more powerful start than "eco." I just wish we had some more info on the functionality of the AWD system. Maybe I'll check out the G section. Its the same AWD system, right?

Yeah, I think Infiniti is really weak on explaining these systems .... they take the Gruber approach, "You're too stupid to understand specifics so just trust us on how it works".

Hahahaha. that's exactly how I feel. Hey moron... put it in snow mode when you see snowflakes... don't worry about how it works... it just does!

My problem is that if you're going to advertise it as a "mode"... you would think that its much more than just throttle numbing. Many cars comparable to the M change suspension height/stiffness, shifting points, AWD power distribution and braking.

Even the Chrystler 300 tells you what form of driving you're in, based on the detected conditions (AWD or RWD). Come on Inifiniti...letting Chrystler show you up... geezz

I thought I read recently somewhere on the my37 forums that snow mode does a 50-50 split front and back from 0-15 or 0-25mph then goes to normal AWD mode but I haven't felt like searching for it again :-)

Maybe Chrysler with their Ghetto Bentley felt they needed to tell the driving everything but Infiniti thinks their customers don't care, as long as it works.

thanks for the heads-up. I'll give it a search and post the link if I find it.

Hahahaha. There is definitely a happy medium between telling the driver too much and informing them on the info if they want it. I don't mind keeping it simple... but I'm an engineer and a car enthusiast... so I like to know how things work.

Plus the fact that after 6-7 years none of those electronics work in a Chrysler...lol

Hahahaha... you get to see it drop from 4-wheel power down to 1. hahaha

This is the most substantial thing I could dig up about the snow mode... but it pertains to the old M35... not sure how much they carried over to the new M37.

Google the Infiniti ATTESA AWD system for the full explanation of the AWD system. The Snow Mode to my recollection, forces a 50/50 split of the torque front and rear up to 12 MPH with a Throttle control (you can feel it, particularly if you switch the modes while driving at slower speeds), then the AWD system operates in the as needed basis (look at the Web site). In other words, it shifts the torque only 50/50 as needed in slippery conditions. It seems it's the only system that uses TWO Driveshafts. It appears to be highly rated AWD system.
