What Drive Mode Do You Use ?

I find with my 2013 M37X, I switch between Sport and Normal modes. I only detect only subtle differences when accelerating or cruising. Hard braking delivers a strong downshift particularly at higher speeds. In an other Thread (about my CEL coming on) I posted that a Transmission Fluid cooler sensor failed (according to the codes that dealer found). In order to correct it, the Dealer applied a Reprogramming of the TCM. The car was more responsive after that was applied. Then after a couple of weeks, started to exhibit the characteristics of some slight lagging and gear hunting that is so talked about in the G37 forums ( I posted many times about the 7AT in my 2010 G37X). It's the Adaptive Driver Control features of the ECU /TCM. Then after driving in Sport mode for while, I find that the lagging diminished, less gear hunting which produced more responsiveness. Now I switch between Sport and Normal modes and seems to be delivering the proper drive.

After the Reprogramming was done though, I DID notice that Sport Mode was a little "dumbed down" than before that was done.

I now have 4400 miles on the clock, and overall Love The Car. The roving response of the 7AT is just something that you have to live with. The adaptive technology is present in other cars too. I drive other cars for business purposes (2012 Ford Taurus - V6) and feel some lagging to some a extent too. An associate of mine has a 2011 Lincoln MKS - and he complained about the 6AT with some lagging / hesitation /gear hunting issues too. The dealer would reset the EU and then it would return within a few weeks again. As it has been explained to me when I had the 2010 G37X, the fast upshifts into higher gears which is part of the designed software in the TCM, is all for better MPGs which the carmakers must achieve in their fleets to dtay within the Gov't Regs.

I used M or DS mode all the time in my area. Unless I'm cruising for long distance.

In traffic (which is 90% of the time) I use D mode, although I switch to DS sometimes when on off- or on-ramps and manual-shift it. DS mode is fun!

dbeachy1, there is a difference in the M and the G. With the Ms, there is "D" - which is regular Drive, and there is a dial that switches D mode to either: Sport, Normal, Eco, or Snow. If you slide the shifter to the left into M mode, then you can shift it the Tranny (7AT) manually. With the Gs, there is no dial to shift D mode, you can only slide the shifter to the left which puts you into DS mode. When you shift the G while in DS mode - it shifts manually as described above.

With the Ms, while in D mode - switch the dial to Sport mode, and she reacts like the G in DS mode, not as aggressively, but there is a difference in how she drives compared to Normal position on the dial.
