I need some ticket advice houston!
Has any one used a lawyer to pay for a ticket? Is it smarter? How much is it? This is my first ticket, I was going 10 over & the price of the ticket is $230

Kenneth Bradshaw in Deer Park. I send our truck drivers to him for tickets and he does a good job. I don't know how much it will cost, it depends. It may cost the same or more than the ticket does, but it does not go on your driving record and does not cost you points on your license. Your insurance premium won't increase. Tell him I (Jeremy) referred you.

You are getting advice all over the place form people that mostly are not even in Texas. Things differ in every state and even from one court to the next. Call the guy I told you to call. He will fully explain your options and the ramifications and costs of each. This is what he does every day for a living. Then you can decide.
I'm presuming this was in Harris or Ft. Bend county. If not you may want to consult an attorney who works in that court where your citation will be heard.

You will, however, almost certainly still pay the fine.
I'm in the same area as you. When i got my first ticket a few years back, no traffic lawyer would take the case as it was rather minimal and, for a first timer, easily solved.
Granted, things have changed. Maybe lawyers are more willing to take it for whatever amount.

Nope. Truck drivers get tickets all the time. Even very good ones. Each of our guys get stopped for commercial inspections at least once a week on average. There's no way that every inspection comes up completely clean. The last guy got a ticket for no spare fuses in the truck. The guy before that because he didn't have enough windshield washer fluid. The guy before that because 2 of his trailer brakes were 1/8" out of adjustment. The 2 before that for being overweight.
Unfortunately it's unavoidable in some instances for commercial drivers. It's not like a regular citizen who only gets stopped if they are doing something wrong. Our guys get stopped routinely just for commercial vehicle inspection. The city of Houston has got to make that money from somewhere.

OP -
Since its your first ticket you can take defensive driving and have it dismissed. Which will cost about as much as a lawyer.
You can also go to the judge and ask to have the fine reduced. If you are respectful and polite the judge will most likely reduce the fine.
You can ask the court for deferred adjudication, which is like probation, don't get a ticket for 90 days and you pay court costs and a smaller fine.
As for insurance, as long as you dont change insurance companies your rates wont go up.
these are my experiences with the Texas justice system, your results may vary.
