Put the OEM black grill back on, after my tolerance for the ill-fitting CMOD (mesh) grill wore too thin.
Although it's refreshing to look at the car and see a grill with proper fitment, this pic does reaffirm why I tried the CMOD in the first place...the 2 front grills don't really match each other, and throws off the look of the frontend. That and the mesh grill does make the car look a bit sportier and up to date. All IMO of course.
So, I've bought an OEM chrome grill for $40 off Craigslist, and plan to convert it to a mesh-style grill, either by finding a shop to do it (first choice) or buying a dremel and taking matters into my own hands (begrudging second choice). If the latter, I'll be sure to document.
The center slats on the Midnight Grille are a different black than the rest of the car, right? So have the chrome perimeter painted Obsidian Black. The contrast will be subtle, and the whole thing will just look right.
Hm, interesting thought. By paint-matching the perimeter, might washout the grill. By that I mean everything would then be a gloss black, not much contract which I think is a pretty critical detail.
By matching I also mean that the top grill has glossy, horizontal slats, and the bottom is flat black diamond mesh (albeit with molded horizontal slats as well).
Tryna close the gap there, if ya know what I mean.
