Moving to Northeast Need advice

I am moving from Houston to Baltimore and I was wondering what kind of modifications, if any, I needed to make for my 09 sedan. For example, is there a special protector or coating for the bottom of the car to protect against the salt? Bulletproof windows maybe??

Thanks!

Do you have any mods on your G as of right now? The only thing that comes to mind is just to buy a set of winter wheels. I assume since you are coming from the south that your G is RWD?

You may want to invest in one of these though...

If you're moving to downtown Baltimore, invest in a small, disposable car.

But if that's not an option... Just snow tires, man.

I'm in the Baltimore area, nothing is really needed around here. Snow tires would help if you are running a RWD car with summer tires on it. AWD cars with all-seasons work out fine. Undercoating is not really something you need to do, just keep it washed in the winter. Winters are typically mild, but this last winter was a little more brutal and active than usual.

I'm from B-mo living in Boston for the last 9 years. (East Baltimore City) Bullet proof windows are a must, so is a good radar detector. Red light and radar cameras every where. BTW, Baltimore is NOT the north east, its the mid Atlantic. Boston is in the north east, BIG difference, trust me on that but I guess way down there everything is up to y'all. A decent set of all weather tires or winter tires are recommended although typically Maryland does not see on average the amounts of snow we do up here, the last few winters have been hard down there tho. I have family down there and go back often. If your from Texas, moving to Baltimore your just not going to like it. The people are WAY different, your car is the least of your worries.. ; except for it getting stolen or stripped in under a minute in B-More city.
you think I'm kidding about the bullet proof glass I bet...I'm not!!

there is one word you will need to learn to get along in Baltimore, Hon, everyone is hon... Hon, male or female no exceptions. Coming up from the south on 295 (the BW parkway) as you enter the city limits the sign says (or at least use to) "Welcome to Baltimore, Hon"
Pit beef, Orioles and the Ravens are a way of life, love um or leave town..or at least don't tell anyone your not a fan. Baltimorons take their sorry excuse for sports teams serious, deadly serious... you aint in Texas anymore... Hon!! oh yeah, from Laurel south is pretty much Redskin territory with a few Steelers traitors mixed in!!

:-)

GO RAVENS

It's just Welcome to Baltimore now. I don't hear hon used as much lately, but I guess it depends on where you are located. I'm in the burbs so def not the city itself.

You forgot how serious everyone takes their blue crabs.

I cant stand crabs, blue or otherwise. I'm actually allergic to old bay seasoning, that's why they ran me out of Baltimore!!

I'm from Laruel, lived in east b-more for 20 years tho and in my then line of work, I saw it all.

LoL, thanks for all the responses everyone. I got quite a kick out of them. You're right, Baltimore did seem pretty Northeasterny to me since Ive been in Texas all my life. I'm really hoping the trunk monkey won't be necessary. Right now the main mod I have on my car is that it's lowered (eibach springs) with the 19 inch coupe sport wheels. I guess I'll be getting some winter tires when I get up there.

Is downtown Baltimore that bad? I'll be living at The Munsey and working at Mercy Medical Center. I was hoping to walk to work (4 minute walk).

My brother lives in Perry Hall and has an G37xS. He travels around the DMV area extensively for work and runs all season tires all year with no issues.

I was just in downtown B'more for a funeral in December and thought how I'd enjoy living there. It's a typical city where it could be a block/block thing but I'm betting you'll be OK. There has been an emphasis on urban renewal there for many years and you're actually seeing the fruits of their efforts.

Second on the Ravens/O's (especially since they're playing better the past few years) pride. You'll also see that B'more has a second class citizen attitude b/c of DC and NY being so close.

Great city with lots of character. Enjoy!

During the day time you should be ok, at night not so much. The Hopkins MC area is pretty well patrolled with hired help on some corners to "keep people moving". In the winter when it gets darker sooner you will have more trouble than spring and summer. ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings (know what time it is), do not make direct eye contact with thugs or what may seem to be homeless. Carry yourself like you know where you are and you are NOT a newb to the area. Have a can of pepper spray on you AT ALL TIMES.
Its not east Baltimore, nor is it "pig town" South western Baltimore but it is still rough area at night.
If Baltimore has a nice area the Hopkins medical area would be it but again, not at night or early a.m.
The Inner Harbor area is nice too, but not at night. When your at the Inner Harbor your only two blocks from Baltimore's infamous "Block" red light district where you can get anything you want and a lot of things you don't want, including your throat cut. Baltimore is not at all a safe city!!!
