G37 Sedan Chat Thread Meet-up
Lucky bastard!
I bought more BBQ sauce, ketchup and some relish the other day. I'm paranoid about not bringing enough. Side nite, we only have store brand squeeze relish here so I got the fancy stuff.

Whelp, I'm done prepping the car. Literally done. Nothing to do now but wash and dry... Assuming it doesn't get rained on next Saturday. There's a chance of rain that's floating around next weekend.
Well, the bad luck finally made its way to me. While doing my brakes over the weekend, one of the bolts on my rear caliper broke. Then I had to go to Autozone and get a new caliper for an 09 G37 since they don't carry the one for my car. So, $100 and about 4 hours later, the brakes got done, and the car feels awesome.
Then the kid who sold me the spacers last week, really only had two, even though he insisted it was a set of four every time I asked. So I re-listed them that day and made my money back in full within a few hours.
Looks like everyone's falling short of some mod they wanted done for the meet. Sigh.

As long as you're still coming. Might have picked up another G from outside of Rochester, NY for the trip. Somebody dipped into my progress thread because of my SN.

Okay, took a day off today, to have some time prepping the car... just washed it on Saturday so it's pretty clean but i'll rinse it again and then I'm planning on using clay bar to get all the dirt and grime invisible to an eye and then gonna apply Meguiar's liquid wax (UNLESS SOMEONE RECOMMENDS SOMETHING ELSE,perhaps with sealant) and get it all polished... well any tips/advice on what to do or what else or how to do it? please be more than welcome,
just prettyyy please ( John) or someone make a list of the things I should use even if that means going to the store and buying them
why's that ?

Claybar is easy, but like anything, you need to develop the technique that works for you, and know when to toss the clay. Personally, when an amount of clay is no longer effective or safe to use on the finish, I keep it for claying the windows. Some people use detailing spray when claying the car, but that's kind of expensive. I just use warm and (very) soapy water from a spray bottle. There are a whole bunch of How-To videos on youtube. Watch a few.
As for wax... I use Meguiar's Paste. But you'll be fine.
Tips? Microfiber towels are the best invention EVEH! for detailing cars. Everyone should own a garbage bag full of these things.
Took the day off to clean the car, eh?
Man, that's hardcore.

I'll try that, and well the claybar kit I have came with the detailing spray so I'll be using that for sure... but what makes me wonder, John did you claybar the whole car or just certain parts? you think the liquid wax I got will do? just trying to get the best results possible, anything else besides claybar and wax? sealant or anything like that?
what about leather seats, what kind of conditioner is best for that?
also I have always been wondering what is the best wheel cleaner to keep the brake dust off the rims for a longer time?
and Yeah I took the day off, you do what you gotta do
car's gotta look clean
on the side note, tomorrow I'm scheduled for a full synthetic oil change and windshield cowl popping noise (again) as well as the power steering noise that has been irritating me for couple months ( but I may put that off till after the meet to make sure I get the car back before the weekend)

If I had to recommend an easy to use wax, I'd go with Zymol. I love the stuff. I actually took Friday off to fully detail my car so I'll be washing, waxing and doing a temporary seal. I'll also be covering my freshly painted sport bumper with tape for the trip. There's no way in hell I'm letting it get loaded with rock chips this quickly.

Whole car. Start small. Do a section at a time. (Hood, fenders, doors, trunk, front/back bumpers, etc.)
Liquid wax is OK. Don't obsess too much.
LEXOL leather cleaner and conditioner. (Wear rubber gloves)

I use Chemical Guys products on my vehicles, however I plan on getting the car sealed with CQuartz sometime in May. Chemical Guys stuff is something you'd have to get shipped to you, unless there is a distributor local to you that sells the stuff.

and what sealant do you use? and that is to be done AFTER applying and polishing the wax right? never used sealant or knew much about detailing either

Okay so just like I thought, ok I'll try the liquid wax, hopefully I will be happy with results
Chemical Guys GAP_VKIT_04 - VLINE Polishing Sampler Kit (4 oz)
I've used the V34 to start, then cut with the V36, then smoothed it all out with the V38. These work really well if you have a orbital polisher.
Another great sealant I've used is OptiCoat.
