Personally, I'm good with it.
I'm just afraid it will expand to all areas & will grow as ny is hard up for easy cash.
They just made bus lanes, the fine is obscene & arrives via mail.
Bloomberg, is the source of this good news.
No one should speed near schools, but what about days there is no school, including 2 months out if the summer.
More details will follow, this just passed this morning.
Plus
No large soft drinks, etc.
except you can still buy a 64oz big gulp at 7-11?
Big brother is becoming to big/intrusive.
Sorry for the rant, this as they cut funding for senior centers/after school activity by over 200 million.

I think bloomberg is in bed with emanuel. They seem to think alike. He (rahm) was just saying on the news the other day that americans are too fat - no link card (food stamps) for soda. City of chicago proper already has speed cameras implement near school zones. The city milks you any way they can - $100+ for a city sticker, crazy parking fees, fees for everything.
Glad I live in the suburbs.
Glad I live in the suburbs.
Just they bs about public safety, it has nothing to do with anything.
In Virginia it's a $1000 for doing 20 over, it doesn't slow people down or they would have the lowest insurance rates in the country.
As you mentioned the speed cameras are up chi town, does it slow anyone down. ?
No it just adds a steady stream of cash that goes who knows where.
I know speed cameras are big $ out west.
Hope it doesn't become like Europe/Japan.
Speed traps are bad enough, almost making me push it even more sometimes.
It's easy for a billionaire like Bloomberg to push his agenda.
Can't comment on Chicago mayor, but they seem to be buddy's.
probably Facebook & tweet each other.

To be quite honest, I rarely if ever go into chicago. Being a suburbanite, everything we need is here. If we go out to eat in the city, I get picked up. For the few times a year I actually have to set foot there, I am very watchful of signs/cameras and other revenue generating devices.
HAVING TO PAY TO PARK ON A PUBLIC STREET!?@# What a concept.
For the areas that do have intersection cameras, i'm sure they generate plenty of revenue, but they also cause more rear end collisions. One suburb which implemented them for some time decided to remove them - after only 9 months. Here's a good read - Red-light cameras in Schaumburg screech to a halt - chicagotribune.com . I don't generally run red lights, and proceed with extreme caution, esp if someone's turning left. Sometimes it's a judgement call and it's safer to go through than to try to stop, hoping who ever is behind doesn't rear end you.
We have no speed cameras here (yet). Sometimes the ISP will place speed camera vans in certain areas along construction zones. Even that is messed up here, construction zones are almost always 45 mph, regardless if a construction work is present or not. If you're not doing at least 60, you will get run off the road by other drivers and/or truck traffic. Other states i've traveled to will have different construction zone speeds depending if works are present.
If they want to slow people down, install speed bumps. Chicago proper has these all over their side streets, these actually do work. I can see these being very [annoying] but useful near school zones.
