Moving to NYC

I'm going to be moving from Seattle to NYC in the middle of summer (Julyish, maybe even August). I've been to NYC before and saw virtually no parking spots, although that may have been because I was in the tourist areas of the city... Coming from Seattle, I have a few questions I'd like to ask you guys

1) What are the realistic chances of finding an apartment that has a garage? (I know this can depend on income, so maybe throw out some prices as well?)
2) What is the safety like over there if I were to leave the G parked outside?
3) How strictly are tint laws enforced over there? I have 5% and have no problems here...
4) How is driving\traffic over there? I know I should stay away from Manhattan, but what about the other boroughs?
5) What's the G scene like over there?
6) And any other tips for a Seattle transplant?

I don't know exactly where I'll be living, but I don't want rent to be higher than $1500 including parking. I haven't checked out prices yet, so I don't even know if that will be possible... Maybe Queens or Staten Island?

Thanks ahead of time!

I cant answer all your questions but ill try.

1) First, where in NYC are you planning to move? Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Long Island?

Most ppl who live in Manhattan dont have cars, cause theres no parking, garages rape you, and you honestly dont need one. All the other boroughs have pretty sufficient street parking, but i know in like brooklyn, queens, and the bronx they have street cleaning on certain days so you gotta move your car.

2) Safety is actual pretty bad if leaving your car on the street, there have MANY MANY break ins around the brooklyn/queens area for members who park on the street. SO DEF get a garage if you can.

3) NYPD will hassle you for you tints, millions of ppl have them here, but they still bust everyones ***** about them. Some ppl just get lucky and stay under the radar. It also depends what area youre in also, here in SI cops have nothing better to do than bust my ***** over tints. In parts of BK or QU or Man they have much better things to do with their time.

4) Traffic capital of the world! lol Basically during rush hour theres bumper to bumper trafffic in every borough/NJ/LI/Westchester haha its everywhere. Other than that the traffic isnt that bad. The roads are HORRIBLE though. Everywhere.

5) G scene is lively, you can check out G37NYC.com, we have over 6600 members.

6) Cant really think if any tips for you ive lived here my whole life. Cant wait to leave ahhaha. Nah its great i love it here. But really the terrible weather and roads make me want to leave sometimes. lol

Also, like i said idk where youre looking to live, but if youre moving here to work in Manhattan, your best bet is to live in the surrounding boroughs. You can get a sick apt for 1000/month in SI in a really nice area and its safe to park on the street and just take the city bus(express) into the city and its $5 each way. Or train to the ferry. Basically theres a million and one ways to get into the city with public transportation. So you would def be better off finding a place in a diff borough that will be ALOT cheaper than a place in Manhattan.

Hey man, thanks for the tips. I don't know exactly where I'll be living, but maybe somewhere in Queens or Staten Island. I'm hoping I can find a place that's under $1500 (with parking included) for rent...

Well i know you can def find a really nice place in SI for that. SI is the most suburban borough of the 5, so its mostly houses not apt buildings. And street parking isnt that big of a deal. You could get a really nice tenant apt on the side of someones house for that in a really nice area like tottenville/great kills/princess bay/eltingville/annadale/huegenot. etc.

$1500 with a parking spot is tough but search for good areas. we are all here to help. We have some nice G meets on a weekly basis out here and don't get as much rain as Seattle!

I moved out to New York a few weeks ago and i can tell you its no cakewalk! There really isnt that many places with garages if you want to live in the city. But you could find something if you move out to the suburbs. I picked up and moved, never looked back, you'll be happy here if you give it a chance, its a little different than seattle.

Basically everythign stoof said.
Im a born and raise NYer and move to MIA for min and now back in NY bout a year ago.

If you r gonna be in Queens and SI you'll have a good chance at getting a place with parking with some realitive ease. Either driveway or street. Check South Ozone Park, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Fresh Medows, Queens Village. You should have some luck there.
