Last owner had this cold air intake installed… I think I’m screwed
Hi all, this is my first post in the forum but basically the last owner installed these cold air intakes that I didn’t pay much attention to. Today while cleaning my car I noticed that they seemed a little strange, like there was no way they could actually filter dust and other particles. I decided to take off the filter and inspect it and… they are pretty much see through! I don’t know if it’s normal, I don’t think it is but someone please help me on what to do. Should I buy new ones? Or is it normal?
do you think my engine might be in trouble? It does have a bit of lag on the throttle response but I’ve heard that’s pretty common with the g’s but overall I haven’t really had major problems with the engine. Thanks for the response btw!

On your next oil change, get a sample to do an analysis. They will tell you pretty much the health of your engine.

Oh that’s new, thanks for the heads up, I just changed my oil around 3k miles so I still have another 3k to go. It doesn’t seem expensive either, only like $35 where I checked.
As the other members already said, those filters are shot sadly. Someone might have cleaned them improperly and caused a breakdown of the filter material, but yeah definitely shouldn't be able to see though them like that.
Do you know what brand of intake it is? You might be able to get direct replacements for it if the intake manufacturer is still around. If not, several reputable companies sell replacement filters in that style such as AEM (oiled filters) and AFE (dry filters), so your best bet would be to measure the original filters and try to find replacements from either of those companies.
