1000$cad G37XS 09' - Day One Journal & Introduction

Hello, I am Sal. I am 16, and was looking for a project for myself.

I currently own a G37s 08 coupe, journey... Love it, absolutely adore it, such a nice ride, power where needed, and such a reliable car to date. I've been looking for wrecked cars although I am not old enough to bid on any.

I found this recent G37XS Sedan 09' with 165,000km on it for 1000$cad, I needed to jump on it.

Story was given: Car's lights all appeared, stopped working, and stopped running. He recently dumped over 8700cad into this car.. He said that the TCM needed to be replaced and recoded? Although I see that this was replaced.

I purchased the car, and towed it with CAA at my expense no biggie.

Day One Journal - I boosted the car, and bam, turned on, and kept cranking. Did he try to hide this? Or simply fed up with it? After looking into the repair notes and receipts, I see that there was some sunroof leaking, normal for these cars, but it was replaced and fixed supposedly. After getting the car to turn on, I pulled some codes. I can see here that the car also needed some oil gaskets? Rear Oil Timing Gaskets? This was never accounted for in the receipts although no check engine light regarding this matter, so lets get the car running so it could possibly throw a light.

Codes followed by:
P0463 - Fuel Level sensor A circuit high input
P0183 Fuel Tempurature Sensor A Circuit High Input
*To add the fuel guage wasnt working

So, it looks like that the car isn't getting any fuel into the engine, causing it not to start. Although I am unsure, and Ill update all of you when I fix this issue. Still doing some research.

Looked like some leaks were relevant too, coolant specifically, although it might have been just a sloppy pour, I did spill lots, Ill be monitoring this in the morning.

Cleaned the car as needed, and monitored everything. I will check in the morning if the battery is charged and look at all of the fluid levels.

Well... ****! Welcome Sal!
Not a lot of people at that age can say they can/have done what you did so I congratulate you.

It's possible the car had so many minor yet important issues that he gave up on it.
Fuel wise: possibly damaged fuel assembly unit not enganging the pump or wiring issue affecting the pump area since they share the connector. Might be a good idea to check the wiring to the pump assembly first.
You're doing great so far at cleaning first to inspect, this will let you know the possible other issues this car might have.

AWD Infinitis irritate me, unsure if you're planning on keeping the car or fixing it to sell it but they require more maintenance than your coupe. Unsure what your budget is but the X will love your wallet.

Cheers and good luck! post pictures as well btw

Hey Bull, thanks for your reply, and the following might shock you.

Day Two Journal

After charging said battery overnight on a trickle charger, I threw the battery right in the morning. But this was time to attack the fuel issue that I mentioned.

After seeing that both the fuel level sensor and the temperature guage are both on the same side. This being the passenger rear, I found that both sides were tampered with, but the rear passenger more then the other. I took the cover off and I couldn't believe it. THE FUEL CONNECTOR (power plug) was diconnected. I immediately clean both surfaces and plugged them in firmly. I let the car cycle by turning the ignition on, and off, and repeated this several times until I could hear the fuel pump wasn't working as much as it did at the start.

I tried to turn on the car and guess what, it fired right up with no struggles at all. The fuel guage worked, and the engine light was off. So I took it for a spin.

The car smelt bad because the sheer amount of rust on the brake surfaces, so I did some moderate to heavy braking and it cleaned them right up
*I saw both front and back brakes were recently changed aswell as the fluid*

Although the SLIP and TDC lights were on, weird. I figured it sitting for a long time seized from sensors or just froze them. So time to try to play with it.

I did some pulls, I ran through all 7 gears, and ran though reverse - drive several times. I turned off the car to vacuum and to my suprise, they next time I turned the car on, they were gone.

Now I have a clean'ish, clean title, G37XS for 1300$cad after tools, and fluids.

Now to access bull's comment.
Yes, my car is a RWD but seeing that all fluids were changed within the last 2000km doesn't concern me and I figure I have a bit until this car needs work fluid wise.

It pulls hard, shifts, and doesn't stick when I lay on it.

Overall happy, and Ill be doing some cosmetic meanwhile I wait for a safety.

That's pretty crazy, on something like that it wouldn't suprise me if the old owner had someone playing tricks on them. Issues like that are odd, usually mean the owner was trying to hide a bigger issue or someone in relations to the old owner was playing nasty tricks on them.

Great job at diagnosing, if you figured all this out on your own I applaud you. It took many years for me to know what I know now.

It took lots of time of research to figure this out, I think a shop tried to scam them, and call it a TCM. Not sure. Ill wait to see what else appears. Cheers!

Buddy had money, and was tired of it. He left it for weeks untouched, sad to see such a nice car just sit there. I needed to do something about it, but for a price I was happy with.
