To make or not to make a car Instagram page
To make or not to make a car Instagram page
I guess this boils down to personal preference and a whole bunch of other factors. But I have been debating on creating a page solely for my car. I think it could be a fun way to share my build. I have a regular personal Instagram page and I don’t post too many car pics on there, just the occasional story flick when it’s looking super clean 😉. Maybe some of you guys with a separate car IG can chime in your thoughts. Thanks in advanced!

Definitely make the extra page specifically for your car. You'll end up finding a lot of more like-minded individuals that could come across your page (especially if you keep it public) and the people who will want to see the car will be able to see it. A plus side is that it keeps a good record of your progress over the years (I have a lot of friends that do this with their lifts when working out). Definitely share the link to the page if you do make it so we can all check it out as well as making a build thread!

That's not a bad idea. I have instagram as my only social media now but it's locked down like a ball turret gunner's sphincter. I could move the car stuff to a public one.

Don't care for social media. Today's youth is addicted to it worse than drugs. Had a hvac system installed today, kid helper couldn't manage to stay off the phone for more than 5 minutes. Constantly checking something.

I had a public instagram for my build and deleted it a couple weeks ago…just not for me, not sure how else to describe it. I have a private personal instagram I’ll occasionally post the G37 too. I’m not for any of the hate on social media which is my biggest deterrent. Also the algorithms now make it much harder for your posts to be seen. Maintaining social media apps can also turn into a chore, which some of us just don’t have the time for. As others have said, a build thread is probably the best way to do it - it stays in the community where people who truly appreciate our cars can share. There’s always the occasional bad apple or outliers, but that’s just life sadly. This community is full of a ton of genuine, good people who just want to share the joy.
FWIW, I have a 10+ year background in IT and IT Program Management and have worked with countless mobile apps and software. Knowing as much as I do about IT security through work, I’m very apprehensive and cautious with public social media. Maybe I just don’t like social media for that reason

Good fences make good neighbors, but digital...
I use Safari on my phone to access instagram. Seems to cut down most of the ads and shows me news from folks I follow first. Doesn't expose me to new stuff, but then again all my follow(ers & ees) on Insta I know at least semi-personally - personally enough that I'm not upset if they see pics of my kid doing cool things. That's why it's locked down.
Keep in mind - *this forum* is a form of social media. Not as immediate a dopamine hit as the short-form SM, but still. This is more a pot brownie than a fentanyl hit.

I love keeping the car Instagram, separate from the regular profile, often I feel like a show off when I post car related images on my main page too much so it’s a good idea to keep it separate. I have also added mostly car accounts to that Instagram so other enthusiast will see it and support it and I don’t feel guilty about rubbing it in the faces of people I personally know.
