Also, I have a sport model on bc racing coil overs lowered with low profile tires with the coilovers set to I think 5 or 6 away from stiffest setting and I don't think it rides too rough.
I was running Ksport coilovers on my g37x sedan and I honestly feel like it rode almost the same as stock. It was definitely stiffer going over bumps but it had 36-way dampening adjustment and it was quite nice on the middle setting. I daily drove the car on the coils too and I had zero complaints in terms of ride or performance for the money.
Well, it’s a year and some change later so I thought I’d throw in a little update.
So I still don’t have a G, although the Prius sadly turned into an 08 Impreza after the engine spun a rod bearing. Thankfully, the woefully unrefined and unremarkable Impreza then turned into a 2012 Camry XLE V6; still sharing it with my siblings however. I was pretty much talked out of getting a cheap, high mileaged G37, as they turn out to be more trouble than they are worth, so I decided my best bet is to take out a loan, which I have yet to do.
When looking for a 2012+ G37 with low, to average mileage, that also opens doors to other cars in its price range. Over a year ago, I test drove two cars in similar classes and similar price ranges within two weeks of each other. The first was a 2011 G37 S (7AT RWD). Driving that car made me love it that much more. I was so sure that was the car that I wanted, until I drove a 2011 Volvo S60 T6 AWD.
Within a few seconds of driving the Swedish car, I knew it was the car I wanted. I still love the G and have so much respect for it, but there’s a certain sense of occasion in the interior and the way it feels that just isn’t present in the Infiniti, or hardly any car priced similarly for that matter. Plus, the seats were legitimately comparable to a W221 Mercedes S550 in terms of comfort.
And it was not only the interior and the comfort that won me over, but the driving experience as well. I wouldn’t say it’s sportier than a G37 (especially with the sport package), but it’s a lot closer than you think. The steering was more precise than the G and with more steering feedback. It also rides better without much more body roll. It doesn’t feel nose heavy despite the transversely mounted Inline 6, and said I6 outshines the VQ37 in smoothness, usable power, sound; the only thing it gives up sadly is 1000 RPM. It also gives up a gear in its transmission, although that was not noticeable as it’s still geared short. The transmission was also quite responsive in manual mode, though paddle shifters would’ve been nice.
Overall, I find myself wanting an S60 T6 over a G37. Not saying it’s a better car for everyone; in fact, a lot of people called me crazy for saying I’d rather have the Volvo haha. I’m sure many of you would think the same, but I just wanted to say where I’m at for now, and also I appreciate the kind words and the helpful advice you’ve given me.
