I can't recall where I read this so take it for what it's worth... Torque wrench accuracy diminishes at both ends of the the extremes and are most accurate near the middle of its range.

This is correct. Particularly at the low end.

Who would calibrate torque wrenches? Never had mine done but if it wasn't too expensive or inconvenient probably would be a good idea. This is assuming my model is able to be re-calibrated

There should be something you can turn at the bottom of the handle to recalibrate it if it's off. We check all of the torque wrenches at work twice a day and they are usually with in 10 lbs of the target. Any more than that we have to twist the bottom piece until it's with in spec.

Can you get a photo of this calibration gadget on your wrenches? What type are they? I've never seen one like that.

On the bottom of mine is a flat metal plate w/ a notch in it, looks like it could be taken off and possibly a way to calibrate but don't want to remove it if it's not supposed to be removed.

Here's the picture. I apologize for the blurriness. We aren't allowed to take pictures inside the building so I had to take it quickly. They come with a key that fits the groove that will adjust the torque up or down if needed. Unlike the one I posted that I have for my personal use, you can't adjust the torque by turning the handle.

I'll try to get a better picture later today.

Thanks, that looks similar to mine. Not that it would do me any good though as I don't have anything to compare the torque to

If anyone is looking for a digital torque wrench check this out. Sears has their Craftsman 3/8-in. drive Digi-Click Torque Wrench, 5-80 ft. lbs. on sale right now for $60. Also the 1/2" digital wrench is on sale for $70.
