Considering buying

Hello All,
I am considering buying a 2011 G37 coupe. Can anyone tell me if there are any major mechanical concerns that are normal for this car? How is the maintenance and reliability? I am not looking to make any additions or adjustments to the car. I no longer have small children so I can finally get rid of economical sedan and get my cute sports car. I've tried doing research but all I see is professional reviews about engines and handling. I don't mean to offend the G enthusiast but I just really want to know if they tend to have a lot of problems and if maintenance is very expensive. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks from a hopeful new G owner!

This car is really a nissan at heart. Regular oil and fluid changes are the only real maintenance required. As far as mechanical problems, there are a few cases of clutch problems in the 6mt that are fairly easily remedied with a replacement aftermarket part, there is also some issue with stock brakes and rotors causing some vibration at speed due to improper bedding or installation.

those problems are few and far between.

Welcome to the site. About all I can add to the previous reply would be the Auto transmission is a bit quirky, I 'm on my 2nd G Sedan and can say the reliability is very good. The AT takes some getting used to but is very quick on the upshifts and does a nice job w/rev matching, it's the coasting, downshifting, and sudden acceleration lag (when you punch the throttle and it "thinks a bit" prior to a powered downshift. There's been some updates that have helped and it's really not a big issue for me but something to be aware of if you don't go w/ the 6MT.

As our illustrious moderator has mentioned, there is somewhat of a lag in downshifting, however a tune, either handheld or professional, will fix that.

Overall these cars are extremely reliable. Routine maintenance is simple and inexpensive. Even in stock form without and modifications it's fun to drive.

I've owned FX35 for 3 years and G37 convertable for 3 years. Both were brand new when I got them. To be honest, I haven't had much problem with any of them. I remember with G37, a trunk lock got messed up and it wouldn't lock, but other than that, I didn't have to go to a dealership for anything.
The replacement parts do come expensive but that's expected for a car of that price

Have owned three Nissans and currently own a convertible. Maint. on these cars are minimal. Other than oil changes, tires and battery, that is all the $$$ put out.

If I was in the market for a used car, I would thoroughly check it out. Nix 2 or 3 owner vehicles, nix out of state ones especially from the northeast and Midwest. There are thousands of hurricane and flood damage cars floating all across the US. Cheap new tires is also red flag. Would check car fax and have a mechanic do a mechanical and body check on it.

Good luck

My biggest issue is I don't drive the car enough. 2012 model, 2 years old now, <12K miles. Only real issue has been trans whine (which is common with the 6mt). Changed the MT fluid to synthetic. This helped some but didn't eliminate it entirely. Other than that no issues.
