Headlight repair

I have encountered a passenger side headlight failure on a 2011 coupe. Warranty not possible. Research indicates ballast can not be replaced on this paticular VIN manufactured car. DEALER says entire assy must be replaced. Replaced bulb to insure that is not the problem. Plan to pull assy and inspect to see if ballast can be isolated and replaced. All other lights are working parking, turn indicator, fog, etc. When alarm activated all works but that headlight does not. Assy $1000 plus so Irather take another approach. Request in for used assy availability. ANYONE EXPERIENCED SIMILIAR PROBLEM, SOLUTION OR SOURCE FOR USED ASSY

You might send a PM to Soundmike he had some ballast issues although his was moisture related.
Sucks that it won't be handled under warranty
You should be able to find a much cheaper light assembly on Ebay, some have found 2011 lights in the $300 range.

If you're local I'll be happy to take a look at it, I have a couple of ballasts here.

thanks for response; live in South Carolina. Once resided in Yorba Linda; enjoyed time in SOCAL. Question sems to be if the ballast can be exchanged. Several indicate it can be changed but dealer says no. I will remove unit today and see what's what.

yes, it can be changed, you will need to buy a used ballast, eBay has a ton of them. The dealer would just replace the whole headlight if under warranty. Good luck

OP, take the ballast out. If it's one of the older styles, and this is moisture-related, you can remove the ballast cover and dry out the unit. I had several teaspoons of water on mine, twice, and it worked after drying it out both times.

p.s. I had one new and one old (sealed) unit on the G. It was the old style that had issues.

Thanks I'll try. What is difference between old and newer type? Is there a spec, model # or id to identify one from the other or different units available. Unit removed -Matsu****a 380v D2R D2S 20000 hr DC12V 24v AC85V 35W - had water seeping out of back plug-in.

I'll try to post a pic of it later. But readily seen difference is that one has a removable silver backing plate covering the electronics, the other doesn't.

Soundmike, based on your info concerning drying out the ballast;I tried it and reinstalled. Everything working fine. I tried to waterproof a little but I would appreciate the spec, info to replace in the future as I que.stion how long my repair will last. Considering the dealer est cost of $1300 to a current total of $0 is outstanding.
Would like to thank you and all the other members for info, pictures, responses
You guys are great!

Awesome! Hope it continues to work well. Soundmike's a great resource, he's helped me out numerous times and has a knack for digging up info that seems all but lost
